No, the point on Hambrick was that he made his infamous comment after not showing up for a -- yes -- voluntary workout and what did the team do? They promptly cut him because of his attitude.

And that was under Campo.

So now Orton doesn't show for mandatory workouts and they say everything's fine? Not very good message IMO.

Now maybe he retires tomorrow and this all goes away, but if he does the minimum and gets paid his 3 mil+ salary as a guy who doesn't even want to play, I don't think that's worth it just to save Jerry some money.

Also, funny to read that players don't pay attention to what happens to other players when for a couple of years there cutting even good solid pros like Andre Gurode was supposedly Garrett delivering a huge get-tough message to the rest of the team.

For the record, I don't think they've commented at all about him missing the physical. It's been reported that he missed the physical, but there are no new quotes from team officials in them.

Coach Jason Garrett said last week he anticipated talking to Orton before the minicamp with an expectation that the veteran quarterback would attend the three days of practices.

Garrett and Orton share the same agent, David Dunn.

Orton is subject to $69,455 in fines if he misses all of the minicamp, which begins Tuesday. He already has lost $75,000 for missing too many workouts, part of a de-escalator in his contract. Orton was scheduled to make $3.25 million this season before any fines and the de-escalator. He would have to repay the Cowboys $3 million of his signing bonus if he retires.

He would be subject to fines of $30,000 per day for missing training camp.

The Cowboys have no plans to release Orton, according to a source.

I look at it like this. They can fine him 30k per day until it reaches $3mil. After that, then cut him.

What a crappy situation to end your career on.

Yah… $3 mil on the table for one year of "work" in the NFL? Man-- he would be dumb to retire at this point IMO. Even if your heart isn't in it-- for the sake of your word and the contract you signed-- and for your own financial security for the future-- he should simply do the right thing.

Kyle, my boy-- here's a straw-- SUCK IT UP

Don't think that 30k to 3mil thing will happen.

I'm not an expert in math. lol

This thing will end by end of training camp...By then, they will probably suspend him the max number of games without pay.

Give him one of those conduct detrimental to the team suspensions like TO got with Philly after you start the daily fines for missing camp.

This is what I felt the team should've done with Ratliff. He won twice. Being cut while avoiding suspension, and receiving additional salary from the Bears.
