Irvin said he called Moss to apologize to him on that very day...saying something about his past screwups was the reason that they were drafting for character over pure talent.

We got Greg Ellis that year, who, at least based on his history to that point, was a high character guy.

Again, this was no surprise to me, but I understand how Moss may have felt slighted. However, I wonder how many other teams told him the same thing, only to pass on him.

That is the thing, it seems like a lot of teams do that every year. I dont know if it is to try and get misinformation out there or what the reason for it is.

Moss is still a top 10 WR in this league.

Not only that, he is a top 10 WR in the history of the NFL. The guy can still play, no doubt. He is older but I would rather have Moss at 33 than Roy Williams at 23. As for motivation, he is a contract year for Pete's sake, plus he has ALWAYS wanted to play for the Cowboys.

Not sure who the Vikes are giving up but a package of Roy Williams (not a better receiver but younger and already signed), Bigg and a 2011 2nd (maybe even a 2012 3rd too) for:

Randy Moss, Logan Mankins and Pat Chung. Dreamcasting is nice, but Jerry needs to finally right that wrong, make Moss a Cowboy. :D

Way to spit in the pats fans face. Esp after a 3-1 start.

You need all the offensive weapons you can get with that defense, you better hope that the vikes at least beat the Jets.

This would be like us trading owens midseason when we had him, leaving us with crayton, witten, and..uh Glenn/Hurd?

If you've been watching the Pats, there is a clear changing of the guard there offensively. Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski are WEAPONS. They lose out by getting rid of Moss, but they're not conceding anything. They will still have an above average offense.

I'd imagine if i were a hardcore pats fan, i would at least want a 1 and/or a 2 for Moss. Then you can say ok, we have a bunch of high picks that we can use on rebuilding this defense.

However if they give him up for a 3 like they've been saying then that's nothing, and it's insulting.

what im afraid of is if the o line can hold up long enough for moss to streak down the sideline, favre can just close his eyes and chuck it down the field for moss to get it.
but i dont know if moss has that in him anymore...
but then again, everyone thought he was washed up in oakland.

He has not lost his leaping ability, the guy is still impossible to cover on a one on one basis. Don't forget that crazy one handed grab he had in the beginning of the season.

Moss and Favre will be a scary duo

This is awesome. VERY VERY VERY interesting. This will answer all of my questions about the patriots offense, tom brady, and wes welker, as well as the vikings offense, sidney rice, and brett favre.

Now we'll see who's really good and who isn't.

If the vikings blow up, then sidney rice is really really good. If they don't then Brett Favre is really really bad this year.

If the patriots implode, then tom brady is overrated. We'll have to wait and see next year to see how much welker was benefiting from the moss double teams.

Also, a steal for the Patriots (yet again) if they get a 3rd.
Vikings can't afford to resign all of their players next year, so it's superbowl or bust for them this year.

Tom Brady's won Super Bowls with Deion Branch, Troy Brown, David Patten, and David Givens as his primary receivers.. There shouldn't be any doubt to whether he's "really good" or not.

I know, that's the frustrating part. From another post:

I don't really understand the whole Brady thing. He was essentially roethlisberger (top 5 to 10ish quarterback every year, won several championships with great defenses) until 2007 when he got moss/welker and went crazy. So then it was confusing...is he this good or not? He never had any receivers before...but then again welker/moss is a historically great duo and it was just one year. So I wanted to see him duplicate. But then he's out all of '08 and Matt Cassell (who seems to suck in KC) does just as well as Brady does when he comes back in '09 (which is once again being a top 5 to 10ish quarterback).

you have to give credit to the pats defense for a lot of the wins in the past

i think their offense is going to be exposed.

Moss is a threat. You have to GAMEPLAN around him. The lack of the threat allows you to do A LOT more. Wes Welker is now going to go up against #1 corners, and is going to see more double coverage.

I think he will struggle and thus so will brady and this offensive line.

No Moss? Welcome to Blitzville.

I'll trade a 3rd for Moss in a heartbeat. That way we will never have to play against him.

Brady is way better than Roethlisberger. In Brady's 3 Super Bowl victories his passer rating were 86.2, 100.5, and 110.2. Ben's passer rating in his 2 Super Bowl victories were 22.6 and 93.2. Ben also benefited from a better defense. The years in which Brady won the Super Bowl his defense was ranked 24th, 7th, and 9th. Ben's defense on the other hand was ranked 4th and 1st.

This is a huge get for Minnesota. Throw numbers out of the window. No player in the history of the NFL changes defensive coverages like Randy Moss. The fact that he's been on the 2 highest scoring offenses in NFL history tells you what type of impact he can have on a team.

Per Adam Schefter twitter page, it is going to be for a 3rd round draft pick.

Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: When the Randy Moss-to-Minnesota trade is completed later, Patriots will receive a third-round pick in return from Vikings.

I'd rather he stay out of Minnesota. They still have a tough D - especially at home and Moss would fill that Sidney Rice void nicely. I wouldn't like this trade as I still consider the Vikings to be one of the most talented teams in the NFC.
