He can play LT also which could push up his market value. He looked better than their LT this preseason and that guy was a first round pick.
If he plays all season and Free misses time with the previously known foot injury, then the savings to keep Free won't look too good.
I think it's fair to say you have an obvious blindspot when is comes to Parnell.
The reality is Parnell IS playing RT. He's the 2nd highest paid RT in football. He's 29 and he has started 7 games in HIS pro career.
I agree his ability to play some LT if needed is a value add.
But Doug Free has started entire seasons at LT so it's hard to argue Free versus Parnell in that context.
Dallas loves Free's leadership and intangibles as much as his play. He is basically on a 2 year 10 mil deal. They feel he provides leadership even if he misses games. And in a couple years they realize they need the RT to be a much cheaper body. As the OC and RG may well be the highest paid guys in football at those positions before long.
Had Chaz Green stayed healthy and proven as good a selection as the other OL Dallas has hit in of late keeping Free may have looked very questionable. 5m for a swing tackle... but given that Free can play both LT/RT and will start at RT week 1 it looks like Dallas was very smart. It has cheap deals for Collins and Green going forward a ways and it has the best starting OL in football. Really hard to argue with what they've done.
