its real easy to say they have no heart sitting behind a monitor. i'd like to see any one of u say that to any of their faces. they go out and the basically fight with another man for 60 minutes. thats really all football is.
i think they show no emotion, and they play stupidly. but to say they have no heart?

im willing to bet u ever told any of them that, u'd be flat on your face with blood tricklingdown your face

you're a silly boy

.... Jerry should begin by trading roy williams.... other than cheap shots, he's good for very little.... might be able to snag a second round pick for the punk

Gee, I thought benching Bledsoe was gonna solve all the team problems...?

At the time it did. I think having him on the sideline is causing even more problems. The offensive line has flashbacks of the first few weeks every time they look over at him huddled up in his stadium jacket shucking sunflower seeds. Then they hit the field and play as such.

Are you serious, you don't get it ??

Emotion in and of itself does not translate into wins, but if a talented team plays more with desire & emotion instead of playing lifeless and flat, ... that might.

If you don't realize what I am talking about, or have not noticed that some football players/teams do play with emotion then disregard my post.

i get what you're saying.... it's irrelevant though.

we made dumb plays and tons of mistakes lately and are 1-3 in the last 4 games as a result.

you want a rah-rah-fire-em-up coach and "vocal" leaders which is eye-candy.

Roy plays with emotion and guess what.... HE STINKS IN COVERAGE AND EXPOSED FOR TDS WEEKLY.

I get goose bumps everytime during this scene.

Al Pacino's speech at the end of Any Given Sunday.

"You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that's gonna make the bleeping difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!

I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. And I know, if I'm gonna have any life any more it's because I'm still willing to fight and die for that inch, because that's what living is, the six inches in front of your face. Now I can't make you do it.
You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think ya going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. Your gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it your gonna do the same for him. That's a team gentlemen, and either, we heal as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now what are you gonna do?"

I don't think you get what I'm saying.

I am not talking about simply game-day rah rah.

I am talking about coaching and practicing/playing with desire and emotion.

In practice, in meetings, in pre-game, in games.

Play football like your hair is on fire !!

Me too man. A lot of that stuff rings true when you're in a team environment like that were so much of your trust has to be placed upon others. That is not all Hollywood.

I played from pop Warner through college. Coaches give speeches and yes you get pumped up funny thing is it really does not matter what the coaches are saying guys will get pumped up before the game. Your adrenaline is high and the coach could say word dirt and the players will go nuts, we would have guys slamming their heads into the lockers before the coach ever entered the room, that was a lower level than Pro Ball and we never had a problem getting ourselves mentally ready to go. However once the ball is kicked off words don't mean a damn thing it is all about going out and making plays. You do that and your emotion level will continue to be high, you get toasted a few times and guys emotions will start to fade. You rely on emotions you will lose more times than not you rely on skill and understanding of your position and you give yourself and your team a chance to win. My biggest motivator as a player was letting my teammates down, I never wanted to be the reason we lost a game.

i get it completely... you're just off base as tuna coaches with desire and emotion... the players play with it.

you're not in practice or meetings or pregame. you only see what the TV cameras show (inbetween booth interviews, sideline reporters and more non-football nonsense).

we had a terrible 4 game stretch... so did the 'hawks...where are the "fire mike" chants.

play with your "hair on fire" BS is not gonna change the fact taht TNEW fumbled after a 3/out or Roy misses tackle after tackle or keep Tony from pressing and fumbling.

Thats what I bolded and wanted to make the highlight of all that.

Then you say its Hollywood AND then you go on syaing....

The bold and your quote go hand in hand. Thats what our team needs right now. They need to come togther as one and want to win for one another. Seems like we have too many "me 1st" players. Like Newman said... a lot of talk for guys getting abused. This team needs to look around at themselves and teammates and want to win for each other... or else we will be disappointed again.

I'm saying speeches do not win games making plays and executing is what wins games. You can have all the fire and brimstone you want but if the players are not executing the game play or blowing assignments then you’re going to lose and that emotion will turn on you. You win because you out play your opponent not because your coach gives a better speech. As for my personal motivator that is what is was my personal motivation no coach had to tell me that and to top it off I played the game for free. So I don't want to hear that some millionaire ball player can't get himself motivated to play the game. If that player has no heart that is not the coach that is the player himself.

I can hande that.

I didnt really post it because I think the coaches need to make a good speech.

Sorry if thats how I came off.

I really just thought of that scene becuase of the "do it for the team" attitude.

Sheesh, I am trying to have a dialogue here, but do you read my posts ?

I NEVER said fire ANYBODY !!

And when I see no emotion during games, I only assume there is no emotion in meetings or practices.

I know playing like "your hair is on fire" is not a cure-all, but maybe if TNew would have charged up and fielded the punt instead of lacksidaisyly (is that a word?) strolling up and letting it hit his feet.

I played for a coach that never gave ONE rah rah speech, but we were always disciplined, coached well, prepared, and motivated.

And we played with desire and emotion, .. we called it "going full tilt bozo !"

Don't leave anything on the field.

We do IMO.

But that is something the player themselves have to bring to the table. I have been in enough locker rooms to know your adrenaline level is off the wall and most of the players forget about all the talk in the locker room once the ball is kicked off. Same with the bulletin board stuff, it is great to help you focus during the week but once the game is underway your focus is on doing the job ahead of you or at least it should be

That we do. That's one of the biggest things that pisses me off. We shouldn't be leaving anything out on the field. Going full tilt from start to finish will always keep you in position to win a game.
