I think people are taking what I'm saying incorrectly. If your getting toasted on the field all the hollering and talking in the world is not going to make you cover better or read the correct assignments within a game. Emotions are great to have but if you’re not doing your job on the field then all the emotion and talk mean nothing at all. I want to see this team play with controlled aggression I want to see them doing their jobs and making plays that will help to carry emotions in a game but like any game if your getting your butt kicked those players are going to be hanging their head and all the talk in the world is not going to change anything. You either make plays or you don't and the rah rah stuff means nothing if your not executing your offense or defense as planned.

Can someone tell me exactly where this team draws its inspiration from? Every week of every season, we go out and ho hum through our games, and seemingly don't care whether we win or lose... I know the players really do care, but why not play like you care on the field, instead of complaining about why you didn't win after the game? I was watching "In their own words" of Parcells, and it seems to me that the fiery, get in your face, my way or the highway coach isn't there anymore. Other than the occasional death stare to someone who makes a mistake, when was the last time anyone saw him in a players face telling him to get his act together, or he's gone? I can't remember. So again, it begs the question, why does this team continue to play with no HEART?

It's a balance, BB.

I think what makes me work harder, or inspires me to do more, is the example set by my superiors. If they are dedicated, if they are working late to meet an impossible deadline, if they show the commitment they expect from me, then I can get behind it and do the same myself. Many times, that deosn't even require words. Conversely, if your superior is a blowhard who doesn't practice what he preaches, no charisma and motivational speech can ever overcome the hypocrisy that is clear to see.

Parcells will try to fire the troops up - we don't see it much because it generally occurs during a commercial timeout. The only thing I hate about Parcells in that regard (and it seems to be a recent development) is the dismay he shows when things are going poorly. He just looks beat, at that point, and seems to lack the energy to pick himself off the mat, in the middle of the game.

Currently, I see that same attitude from the entire team, which certainly lends credence to the notion that the team's attitude reflects authority. Parcells and the Dallas Cowboys have a weak chin right now. They can't take many punches.

Agreed. Good points all around.

Dooms, I understand your point. Individuals can kill you if they are not doing their job. Sometimes, I'll also agree that no amount of hootin' an' hollerin' can change what happens on the field.

However, I have seen with my own eyes, instances where it does make a difference. Yes, it is rare. But I have seen a leader take a team that was whupped, beaten, left for dead, attitude shot, and turn them around at halftime.

I stress that it is a rare quality.

Charles Schwab did it at Bethlehem Steel back in the early 20th century, and he literally knew nothing about the steel industry when he started.

Last night ND and LSU came out fired up one team executed and one team did not the team that goes out and does their job and makes plays won the game. I have no issue with players playing with fire, emotion or what ever but it is hollow if your not doing your job. Emotion will come and go quickly within a game and the team that is making plays will continue to be up beat and the teams that is getting their butt kicked will look dead. This is not just Dallas it is every single game that is played. Emotions are great but you maintain emotion by going out and executing. This is what I'm stressing. Emotions is not going to cover the RB in the flats, the LB making the right read and getting his butt out in the flats is what will do the job. Lastly I'm not saying emotion don't matter they do but you maintain it by executing and without that the rest does not matter.

Nobody is suggesting that a team could just skip practice, heck, even cancel all of the team meetings, .. then just go out on the field, do a few cheers and play with emotion !

That's ridiculous.

We are saying after studying hard in meetings, watching film, practicing your butt off, and preparing to the hilt so you are ready to execute, ... theeeeeeen find a way to get fired up and play the game with emotion, and a burning desire to win.

When we talk about playing with passion we are not ruling out preparation first.

I don't see that as an issue. When Dallas won 5 out of 6 and most of those we were behind heading into the 4th qrt and won. No one talked about heart or emotions now all of a sudden we have no emotions and no heart. What we don't have is execution plain and simple. Sorry I think if this team starts doing the job and taking care of their assignments the emotion will be there and if we don't then it won't. I think people are trying to find easy solution and the only solution is going out and executing if we do that every thing else will take care of itself.

Funny you should say that, .. I have two buddies here at work that are both Cowboy fans, we even watch the game together sometimes, and we have been saying for quite a while that we don't play with emotion.

My two boys and I notice the same thing. My youngest says that it seems like we care more than the players do because they know that no matter if they win or lose they can go and get in their $65,000 Escalade and drive to their $500,000 mansion.

It doesn't automatically guarantee a win, but football is an emotional sport, and I think you actually play better when you are excited to be playing and play with that passion instead of just seemingly going through the motions.

Well we disagree I don't think heart is the problem with this team I think the fact guys don't know who to cover on any particular play is the problem. When I see guys running free emotion is not a big concern getting a man in postion and covering that receiver is. I would agree emotion are a part of the game but so is execution and if you don't do that then nothing else matters. I don't see this team lacking heart I see them screwing up!!
