One nice thing about 8-8 is that it means you actually did win half your games. We like to pretend we don't for whatever reason, but it's not the case.

However, 8-8 also puts you at the spot in the draft where it costs too much to move up, you get too little to move down, and the players usually at that spot are questionable enough its a crap shoot. So unless you have a really astute front office, or perhaps have latched on to that dreaded serendipity, it ends up you have no forward movement, and as Pink Floyd was fond of saying - another year older and closer to death.

Yes, and this defense cannot stop the run nor the pass. While most don't give the crredit due the QB's in the East, I think any of them and all of them can find the open man because of no pass rush by Dallas.

Last year was last year.

I don't disagree about the defensive questions, but we haven't yet seen the real defense.

Henry Melton, Anthony Spencer, Terrell McClain, Demarcus Lawrence, Morris Claiborne, Rolando McClain (as a starter).....they haven't played with this unit yet. And there'll be a couple of defensive linemen signed soon probably, too.

The Giants are a steaming mess. Horrible offensive line and a defense that might be worse than Dallas'.

And RG3 looks utterly lost. They have a QB controversy brewing that will fall along racial lines, and that new coach already looks clueless.

So, from your POV they have something that has not been on the field together in pre-season games which will improve this defense enough to make this team better?

Have you EVER seen that work where they don't play together in pre-season and they come out like gang busters in real games?

Henry Melton,

Coming off an injury, new team, maybe the one bright spot on the defensive line.

Anthony Spencer,

Let's see this guy actually suit up.

Terrell McClain,

Spare

Demarcus Lawrence,

Rookie who will sit out at least four games and maybe as many as six. I have not had high hopes for this guy before he got hurt. Then coming back and debuting in the middle of the season. To little too late.

Morris Claiborne,

Show me anything.

Rolando McClain (as a starter)

Head case who will disappoint.

.....they haven't played with this unit yet. And there'll be a couple of defensive linemen signed soon probably, too.
.
Cast offs....as Risen Star says, if shopping for defensive linemen in late August is their plan, then these are so really poor planners.

.
Hence why I suggested they split.

And RG3 looks utterly lost

Let's hope...Oops, there's that word again.

So Dallas went 5-1 against the East last year (would have been 6-0 with a healthy Romo the last week), and now you think they go 1-5?

Have you seen the train wrecks in New York and Washington? The Commanders don't have a quarterback, and the only thing the Giants have is a quarterback.

...and with his supporting cast, I don't think they have even that.

There are a lot of teams better than we are consistently drafting below us.

A lot more goes into getting good or great players than just drafting them. The best organizations have a system, and have coaches who can develop players over time that fit that system. I'm not sure we're doing that consistently, but I do know we can overcome drafting in the middle of the round.

You know this answer. I refrain from saying just because the rant board is getting near full.

Yeah, but then the goal should be to have that type of organization. I'd argue that we actually do right now, but know a lot of people don't agree. If we don't, though, it doesn't really matter where you drat. We're not going to to luck into a Superbowl.

SF /Kapearnick, still will be a challenge, but contain him, he can be above average still, but we can still have some success. But key will have a lead in the game.
Tenn. / Locker, we should be fine here. Could be tougher than we think though.
St. L. / Hill, I bet Rams fans believe Hill will be their next Warner, as when he took over for Trent Green.
N.O. / Brees, nothing to say, ouch on this one.
Houston / ?, who is their QB anyway.
Seahawks / Wilson, I'm worried more about their defense, but Wilson still very good. Keep him to short passes, hope for mistakes, create TO's.
Giants / Eli, well, he will have 6 games to get himself together, is that enough time.

If offense is as good as it should be, and defense just improves enough, we should be in decent shape. 5-2 would be great, 4-3 still wouldn't be too bad at that point.

Those are some tough defenses on that list and some QB's who can play IMO.

But what you're not considering is that ALL teams are struggling for the most part. San Francisco looks awful. Defenses are giving up yards just like Dallas this preseason. It's not time to judge yet.

You don't need everything to come up roses to be better. We're not talking '85 Bears; we're just trying to be better than that puke of a year ago.

Melton can do what stat-whoring Hatcher did, and a lot more. Spencer was the best player on the defense for two years before getting hurt, and he'll be healthier than Ware this year, almost certainly. Lawrence needs only to be a good speed rusher this season, which scouts think he already is. Yada, yada, I know.

Look at it this way. Dallas will have an excellent offense, and defense is barely legal anyway in the NFL. Dallas has eight winning Sundays in it, so what's left to determine is if the defense can be just good enough to get two more.

As far as my OPINION on the first seven games, it is my analysis and I am in NO WAY "dragging" you guys and gals down with me to the road of optimism! So I apologize for for that! LOL. Sheesh! Some forum members have their belts on too tight! GO COWBOYS!!!!(Cuz that is all that matters ABOVE ALL here)

We have four below average QBs in that span.(Eli included) I think while we have a great chance to win those while getting everyone healthy, and back from taking Molly. I seriously think we could be gaining momentum...

Love how you threw the "Molly" incident in there. Seriously, I do. Good post.

You are dead on with Eli. He is capable of outstanding games, but then he is more capable of stinkers too--and that O-line of theirs wreaks.

We gotta shot. We'll see, I say we have a shot to see what happens before we reach Seattle at their place.

They could go anywhere from 1-6 to 6-1 during that span.

It is impossible to know how this team is going to do this year.

I agree. There's no way to know. We could be the Seahawks or the Jaguars. It's anybody's guess.
