Still, the Cowboys have won more than their share of championships, overall.

There are 32 teams in the league, 6 more than the 26 teams that made up the NFL when the AFL teams merged in 1970. We'll say that there has been an average of 30 teams in the NFL over the past 54 seasons.

This means that an "average" NFL team will have won close to 2 Super Bowls out of 4 appearances. The Cowboys have won 5 out of 8. They have more than doubled their "fair share". In fact, they are still ranked 3rd and 2nd respectively in SB championships and appearances.

Really, their present ineptitude does not erase their historical relevance. Rather than looking exclusively at a specific segment of Cowboys history, we should look at the big picture. As a Cowboys fan we have much to be proud of.

There is also the fact that the Cowboys are ranked #1 in the NFL for winning percentage in the regular season. To this day, there is no team that has won at a higher rate.

I am disappointed in the kidnapping of my team by a narcistic owner that is totally unqualified, uncredentialed and untalented when it comes to building a championship team. However this is not a situation that lasts forever.

In the meantime, 3rd most SB championships and 2nd most SB appearances coupled with the best winning percentage in the league isn't exactly historic futility.

Anyone got an image of the "501" headline of Switzer's loss to the Eagles?

So you agree with the fact that the Cowboys have largely been inept in the postseason for 20+ years, which coincides with Jerry taking full control as GM?
We have won a couple playoff games with MM. If you wan to hold onto the Gailey and Campo era if you like. I just don't see us that far off from what was on display at the Super Bowl. Jerry is not some sort of jinx.

The way I look at it, Jerry has his good spots and his bad spots. I agree that when Jerry is freewheeling and listening to Larry Lacewell he is godawful. That is the thing about Jerry is he never acts in a vacuum. I think he realizes he is not the football talent guru nor having a desire to put in that level of work. Right now he is listening to MM.

But I don't think people are trying to find ways to win. It is the proverbial axe to grind when it's not straight trolling.

Remember the good old days on this forum when Wade Phillips was allegedly the problem and Jason Garrett taking over was going to change everything and then the same guys making excuses for years the “next Tom Landry who took five years to rebuild” are doing the same thing for Dak

It’s almost like we got a whole bunch of Jerry’s on this forum..

Good times…

It's called a "sports entertainment franchise" for a reason...

Jerry is great and the entertainment and franchise part of the equation.

The sports part, not so much.

It's not that Jerry is a jinx.

It's that I think he's just not a very good GM. There's no real pressure on him like any other GM in football whose job is on the line. Jerry's job is never on the line.

I think he's also hired mediocre HCs. Maybe McCarthy will be different. Thus far, he's done nothing that Garrett hadn't done in the postseason, for example.

The Gailey and Campo years are important only in the sense that one constant through those two and Philips and Garrett is Jerry. Players changed. Assistants changed. HCs changed. Front office people changed. The results have no changed much.

The one constant? Jerry.

McCarthy has taken the team to the playoffs back to back years. That hasn't happened since Chan Gailey.

We seem to finally be getting away from playing slim pass rushers at NT.
