Our institutional secrecy is terrible

Teams was jumping other teams all day. This what teams do. They jump players who have the potential to draft someone they want.

Well, it directly negates what you said.

Everyone and their brother were making new EE threads, because they knew the Cowboys were taking him.

Just a misunderstanding. I wasn't talking about fans on this board; I was talking about what the mock drafts, pundits and "experts" were saying.

Yes, a lot of the fans here were hoping/predicting we'd take EE. Media had us pegged for Bosa or Ramsey, from what I saw.

Are we really rueing the loss of Connor Cook in the fourth round?

Elliot, Lynch, Ogbah, Cook, the list goes on. Other teams knew which picks Dallas wanted and are always seem to be a step ahead.

And it's been like this for a while.

You're overstating it. All those teams know who the other teams are interested in. You're focusing on Cowboy point of view, but other fans probably say the same thing when their favorite player is taken by someone else. The Rams didn't trade up to pick Goff just to block us.....c'mon. And day 2 DEs, those teams needed DEs, even if we weren't interested in any they know other teams were. Those players went in range they were predicted to go.

Literally no one knew we were taking Zeke. It was a huge surprise. Most assumed Ramsey. But at #4 overall, it is usually narrowed down to a couple different guys.

Looking back at the behavior of the DC.com tribe I find it hard to believe that Zeke hype wasn't in anticipation.

Unlike other teams (New England comes to mind), it seems like other teams know who our picks are going to be before we make them. Unlike San Diego with Bosa, pretty much everyone knew we wanted Zeke. Likewise, CLE and TEN seemed to know we wanted Ogbah and Dodd. And Oakland traded up above us for Cook and the Dallas war room was deflated. Maybe it's because we typically draft who visits us, or maybe it's because we are too cozy with local media guys like Werder or Broaddus who leak what they are "hearing." But this is becoming a big problem IMO.

Always

Then how in the world did we get Tyron? Fredrick? Martin? Why didn't someone draft Leary in the 7th? Same with Beasely? The list goes on.

Read your post out loud a couple of times and comprehend how ridiculous you sound. You're not being objective.

EVERY team is aware of EVERY teams' needs.

Cleveland and Tennessee who picked before the Cowboys took players for their teams to spite the Cowboys?

Huh

Or ensure they get the player they covet as the most important position on the field. Is anyone not reading the OP's CONTEXT. All the replies don't relate to his question at all. Just cherry pickin instead of talking about the concept in general?

The op's post makes no sense.

He said our secrecy is bad and that's why Cleveland and Tennessee took ogbah and dodd.

That's nonsensical.

Or maybe they just have some dang good luck.

Frederick is the only surprise and the rest fell to us at a position of need. Martin or Manziel don't ring a bell? Beasley proved he is a one trick pony, and Leary waited for a payday/quicker freedom from original team (like he is doing now) by telling other teams he wouldn't sign that late; like many UDFAs do. Collins did the exact same thing where it will be hard to retain him.

Do we telegraph our picks? Si senor...but Smith...yeah and @ QB, etc. Fall back plan bc didn't want to pony up for Wentz though they agreed he fit their scheme perfectly. The PR team works fans like minions (in summary). We got Tyron bc he fell to us, same with Martin. We were open about Tyron but were also ready to take Cox as our fall back if I remember correctly.

The rest "fell to us". LOL

If everyone knows what we're doing then why didn't they jump ahead quick and steal those good/all-pro players away?

The OP's argument is weak and defending it is weaker.

They weren't telegraphed, we picked them bc they fell to us either way; better? No team was willing to jump us for those players...known need or not.

OP topic

Is is it good to telegraph your picks as it seemed to happen?

Pitchforks already ready boys! yeah, I'm the bad guy.

I legitimately don't know what you're trying to say.

The FO didn't want to pony up for Wentz (remember JG lovefest?) so went w/Elliott after the trades by STL/PHI and went w/the fallback QB plan in Prescott. Could work out, no problems with that now. Tyron and Martin would have fell to us bc teams weren't willing to trump us while knowing our selections to come; admittedly Manziel talk fuzzied this and glad SJ saved his poppa from himself by picking the consensus in Martin since Shazier was off the board; our first choice. We had a fallback option if Tyron was scooped in Fletcher Cox. Don't blame ya, I had to re-read that rant tbh. My b:D
