Yeah, time to re-think our 2nd round strategy. Imagine we had 6 additional 2nd rounders on this team ???

We've designated the second round to gambling on injured players, drug addicts and TEs we can't use, instead of making smart safe picks like we have in the first round. If we would approach the second round like we have the first round, we could have a solid defense to compliment our offense. Compare all the first round hits we've had the last several years to all the misses in the second round. Practically all the hits have been on the offensive side of the ball, except for Lee. There can't be many teams in the league that have missed on more second round picks the past decade than the Cowboys.

What makes you say that? Assuming he can even stay clean to come back from a suspension.

Money for one is a good motivator. He's suspended without pay.

Being unable to get high due to financial issues can make a person sober up to find a job. I've known people like this IRL.

I'm not saying that's right but that's my experience with people who do drugs but cant afford it.

They need to be more conservative and stay away from the risky / injury prone type of players.

We need good solid football players that are available on Sundays with that pick. If we land a superstar then that is great but don't risk it on guys who fall because of behavior and injury reasons.

Lawrence is a pretty good player, he's injured a lot, but that's not in the drafting. Carter wasn't too bad either. And I'd say Mo is a top-10 miss and not a second round miss if that's how we look at it.
Lawrence is a liability on he field. His complete inability to get any push harms the team.

Best drafting team in the league.

You didn't like third rounders, Demarco Murray and Terrance Williams? Crawford for that matter.

I wouldn't call Lawrence a miss.

I don't care where I get them as long as I get them. - Bill Parcells after he was questioned why his top draft selections weren't exactly setting the world on fire.

I hope Jaylon turns it around.
Good info. Thanks for posting. Is this McClays doing? Just curious

In my experience, I've seen some people with addiction issues turn to alternative ways of gaining income to fuel their problem instead of through traditional income methods. It depends upon the particular individual.

Yes, our 2nd round drafting has been putrid.
SO many pro bowlers or at least high quality starters taken those years right after our picks.

But hey, the overall drafting HAS gotten better recently. So that much is good.
Last year was epic.

He's not a "liability". He should be getting more pressure but he's probably a better rotational player than a starter. He's probably not worthy of a second contract at this point. Bruce Carter was a good player for us as well, just because the team doesn't give you a second contract...it doesn't mean you're a bad player, just replaceable.

Seriously though, most second round picks are just okay, solid players, every now and then you'll find an elite player that slipped.
