Our mistake - firing Wade Phillips

Let me explain an NFL football player for you. 90% of them don't care if they win or lose games, they lie,lie and lie. An NFL player only care about how well he does in games from a personal stand point, also to not get an injury so when the agents goes to negotiate a contract they have leverage over an owner or GM. Most of the players don't want to get into the playoffs, it's more risk for injury also more wear and tear on the body. You see a lot of players opt out of the pro-bowl now days. You have to understand this new NFL with salary caps and agents along with the NFL players bargaining agreement have changed the game forever.

One more thing that happen with Wade after he was fired was Jerry Jones came in a players meeting and said pretty much if you don't start playing well. I'll remove all of you from the roster and purge this team. He had to threaten them with money and contracts for them to start playing better. This just reinforced my explanation of an NFL player in today's game.

I just don't take the NFL as serious anymore. I was lucky to watch the last great team before salary caps and I'm thankful for it.

I think free agency has added to the problem as well. Team loyalty is a thing of the past since a player knows that his time with a team is limited to his contract. Years ago, a player was drafted and played for one team with the exception if trades and cuts. It was in a players best interest to give his all because he knew that he would be with his team and teammates for years. The option of getting a fresh start every couple of years with a fat contract wasn't there. I don't like the direction that the NFL is headed. It is all about the money and not much about the game or team.

The defense was still giving up TDs in the final 2 minutes of each half when Wade was here. That's how we lost to the Giants in the playoffs.

Our mistake - firing Wade Phillips

LOL!!! What? The mistake was not in firing him, the team had quit. The mistake was promoting him past his ceiling of DC. Jerry is hard headed, he didnt learn from the other two teams where Wade flamed out as HC. Jerry pays no attention to the mistakes of others apparently.

Why did Parcells leave anyway? I honestly forget. Was he burned out? I remember Jerry giving him an extra million to stay the year before, but he ended up leaving the next year anyway. The fact that it was right after the bobbled snap made it feel like he left us high and dry. If it was Jerry's meddling, that explains it. It just felt like unfinished business. Who knows what he would've done with the 13-3 team the following year? We'll never know.

1. Parcell's cashed out with jerry 2x
2. Jerry put TO on him. Bill didn't want TO.

Other than the fact the team completely quit on him - I agree.

It wasn't Phillips fault they quit.

It was because Romo was injured and the injuries again started to pile up.

No pass rush.. No CB coverage..no safety play.

As soon as the defense struggled..

Phillips was easily dismissed as the weaker coach and Garrett was tossed the keys..

as we can now see..

..about 4 seasons too early.

Funny, he never had a cumulative losing record at anyplace he coached. Worst he did was at Denver where he was .500. Out of nine seasons as the real (not interim) coach, he only had two losing seasons.

But this has to be a troll-type thread, because nobody supported Wade more than I did. Part of that was the way the local media gave him so much crap, most of it personal and not about way his team performed... Directly opposite of the Garrett era. But Wade did deserve to be fired that last season. Right or wrong, when the team lays down like that, the coach has to go.

Now would I have liked to have seen him get a chance with an OC who actually worked for him and was totally on his side... Yes. Jerry admitted after Wade was gone that he wouldn't have let Garrett be fired basically no matter what. Dodger mentioned Wade being hired because he was a good 34 coach and because he was soft... I'd say it was because he was a good defensive coach and he'd accept an incredibly green Garrett being given free rein over the offense. Basically none of the other candidates in 2007 fit that one crucial Jerry criterion.

Winning record..........? Whatever!

How many Super Bowls has he won?
How many Conference Championships has he won?
Where have any of his teams that he has been a part of ever done anything besides maybe make the playoffs?

Wade was a good guy and any personal jabs was out of line by the media. But on the field, the guy only has one, count em, one playoff win in his entire head coaching career and that was with us.

You mentioned how our guys quit on him. I also remember the Music City miracle, which really was a fluke thing, but that's the kind of stuff that happens to people like Wade.

The guy is a loser coach that has never won anything, and that's a fact.

Please tell me this a joke. Wade is a terrible HC. Always has been. Never will be a HC again in this league.

Well..

Romo didn't want him either.

TO destroyed every team he played with.

So b/w TO and Parcells believing Romo to be a coach killer..

..he left.

Same crap..Jones wanting credit and like the Jimster..

..Parcells left to broadcasting.

Wade's coaching philosophy seems to have a shelf life of 2.5-3 years before the team becomes too soft to compete in the NFL.

The Texans are also a prime example. He has a very similar personality to Kubiak and see what happened this year. Players are too relaxed and it catches up to the team eventually

It may have sounded that way but Parcells was the one who benched Bledsoe but I'm sure Jerry was pushing to see Romo. He pushed to see Drew Henson on Thanksgiving in 04 and Parcells went along. I think Jerry talked Parcells into starting Henson that day but once Parcells saw Henson wasn't seeing things fast enough he benched him at halftime. Parcells probably told Jerry he would go ahead and start Henson but if he wasn't performing he would yank him.

Absolutely not true.

Jones was actually upset that Bledsoe was benched, and thought that they should have stuck with him.

Jerry was disappointed at the change in QB but reading his comments he understood a change had to be made. The Cowboys were a shaky 3-2 team that was soon to be 3-3 when Bledsoe was benched. Entering the season both Jerry and Parcells felt for the Cowboys to be successful they needed experienced QB at the helm. Neither Jerry or Parcells wanted to enter the 2006 season having to endure the growing pains of a young QB. What Jerry says and what Jerry feels are two different things. Although he was disappointed with Bledsoe being benched I'm sure there was a part of him that was itching to see what Romo could do much like with Drew Henson during the 04 season.

It was clear by week 7 of the 06 season the Cowboys were going nowhere under Bledsoe and I think even Jerry was ready for the Romo era to begin. His quote was "I'm disappointed at the reason we're having to make this change." He was disappointed because the expectations entering the season were high under Bledsoe who led the Cowboys to a 9-7 season the previous year. Bledsoe was brought in because it was thought he could lead the Cowboys to the playoffs.
