Our Next 5 games

Well this season has certainly nosedived quickly. Yes, we lost a lot of key guys, but we dropped two games that we could have and should have won even with our existing personnel. Not winning at least one of the two is downright backbreaking. So what comes next?

Let me start off with a real hot take here: we absolutely must win 2 of our next 5 games. Assuming it will take 9 wins to make the playoffs, if we aren't at least 4-5 by the time we get Romo back (and that assumes he's back by Miami), it will be almost impossible to make the playoffs. Even at full strength, it will take a herculean effort to finish the season 6-1 or 7-0.

So here's what we've got left with Weeden (or, god willing, Cassel) at the helm:

vs NE
BYE
@ NYG
SEA
PHI
@ TB

NE and SEA are almost certainly losses. I know Hardy and Ro Mac coming back will help, but those teams are just much, much better than we are. With the way the Giants have looked the last couple of weeks, that game in the Meadowlands is looking awfully tough, though still winnable. I think we probably lose there. That means we HAVE to beat the Eagles and Tampa Bay. Frankly, those are two bad teams and we should beat them even without Romo.

So to summarize: I think we're in for a long, brutal next four weeks (three games), followed by two absolute must wins against Philly and Tampa. If we can get through this stretch at 2-3, Romo may be able to carry us to the promise land, thereby fulfilling my username prophecy of "RomotheSavior."

Gonna need a lot of bourbon this fall...

NE is going to be a nut and a gut check. I just want to see this team fight regardless of score.

The other games I want to see this defense step up and actually catch a INT and our Oline actually blow open some holes. Right now our play calling is close to 8-8-ball years. Linehan needs to get mismatches instead of just out executing defenses. Then we have a chance.

1-4 is quite possible and with the way the team is playing, quite likely.

That is why last night was such an important game.

I agree with this completely. Unfortunately, based on what I have seen these last two weekends, I have little confidence that this team can win two of these next five. We are just too beat up and poorly coached/organized at this point. I mean, it is just a hot mess right now IMO and the meat of the schedule is upon us. It could get real ugly.

Beat the Giants and Philly and then not much else matters before Romo comes back. Those are the two games that will define this season.

I agree, but I just don't see them beating the Giants unless the O-line and D-line significantly improve. I think they can still win the division if they win the other two (Philly and Tampa). I'd take Giants and Eagles wins above all others though. If they win those two, they'd be 4-5, but 4-0 in the division. That would be huge.

lose out. aint winning till romo comes back or by some miracle we can have a run game again. our only hope is that the division continues to suck along with us.

It's going to depend on how the other NFCE teams do in that time span. I can see NY getting on a little roll.

One good thing for us is that we get the Deadskins twice with Romo.

I am all in on throwing the Pats game if we are not competing in the first half just to avoid injuries to folks we will need when Dez and Romo and others get back. Imagine losing Witten or one or more of our OL next week or even Hardy on his first week back and still losing 56-10. We need a healthy team and "competing" next week won't mean a hill of beans if we lose key players. Take a fall to the Pats, keep everyone left healthy and get through the Bye unscathed. Then hopefully Dez is back for NYG and Romo soon after.

Put Cassel in and then I want to see if this team still looks this bad. It might. But its worth a shot. What do we have to lose?

You might get your wish against the Giants after the bye week.

3-6 would be very difficult to come back from considering they have @GB, @Buffalo, Carolina, and the Commanders twice in the last 7 games.

If they end up going 1-4 over the next 5 games, I think you can write the season off.

The Giants could get on a roll not because they are good but because their schedule is really light. Good Lord they have played next to nobody these past few weeks.

Agreed. I have not watched Carolina yet this season, but they are currently 4-0. Green Bay is Green Bay, Buffalo is a little up and down but has potential to be strong and the Commanders are not as bad as anyone expected. If we go to 3-6, I see little chance we can go 6-1 the rest of the way to hit 9-7.
