Well this season has certainly nosedived quickly. Yes, we lost a lot of key guys, but we dropped two games that we could have and should have won even with our existing personnel. Not winning at least one of the two is downright backbreaking. So what comes next?

Let me start off with a real hot take here: we absolutely must win 2 of our next 5 games. Assuming it will take 9 wins to make the playoffs, if we aren't at least 4-5 by the time we get Romo back (and that assumes he's back by Miami), it will be almost impossible to make the playoffs. Even at full strength, it will take a herculean effort to finish the season 6-1 or 7-0.

So here's what we've got left with Weeden (or, god willing, Cassel) at the helm:

vs NE
BYE
@ NYG
SEA
PHI
@ TB

NE and SEA are almost certainly losses. I know Hardy and Ro Mac coming back will help, but those teams are just much, much better than we are. With the way the Giants have looked the last couple of weeks, that game in the Meadowlands is looking awfully tough, though still winnable. I think we probably lose there. That means we HAVE to beat the Eagles and Tampa Bay. Frankly, those are two bad teams and we should beat them even without Romo.

So to summarize: I think we're in for a long, brutal next four weeks (three games), followed by two absolute must wins against Philly and Tampa. If we can get through this stretch at 2-3, Romo may be able to carry us to the promise land, thereby fulfilling my username prophecy of "RomotheSavior."

Gonna need a lot of bourbon this fall...

Nein!

Seattle half shown vulnerabilitys this season, almost losing 2 games at the last moment. Seattle is definately not an automatic loss for we.

My game plan for the Patriots would be to rush 11. Yes, they'll score a few easy TDs, but at some point Brady will get injured. I would get some of the bottom of the roster guys to hit Brady late and go for the injury.

I think there is some form of martial arts where they are experts on breaking bones. Just sign a couple of those guys for the Patriots game and they can go to work on Brady long after the whistle has blown.

IMO, one a player or team cheats, they are open game for retaliation.

To be serious, I've always wondered why teams don't bring full out blitzes on Brady anyway. If they are scoring on you every time they have the ball and running up the score, why not take the chance you might get a strip sack or knock the QB out of the game? The worst that can happen is they score quicker.

We could be 2-5, quite easily. In fact, I think that's what we are going to be. We just aren't good enough and will lose 5 in a row. Hardy and Gregory and McClain are going to have to play out of their minds IMO to avoid losing 5 in a row.

That Philly game could very well be the swing game. They have to win that game. Tampa stinks. I think we can win that one.

It also highlights what a disaster Sunday night was. You win that game and you buy yourself some real breathing room. Worst case with a win, you'd have been 3-3 after 6 games with the real possibility of winning 2 of the three - Seattle, Philly, Tampa games.

I only see us beating Tampa Bay. It's way too difficult to sweep the NFCE games.

Normally I would agree. But Philly is so dysfunctional now. If they drop a few games coming up like at NY and Carolina, they might be packing it in soon. Already rumors of players wondering what the hell is going on.

I agree, but I just don't see them beating the Giants unless the O-line and D-line significantly improve. I think they can still win the division if they win the other two (Philly and Tampa). I'd take Giants and Eagles wins above all others though. If they win those two, they'd be 4-5, but 4-0 in the division. That would be huge.

You do realize Dez is probably coming back? The Giants are not that good. They're lucky we're so beat up or the Cowboys would've run away with this division. The defensive line will have had Hardy and Gregory back why wouldn't they be significantly better? I don't see what makes the Seahawks a significant loss. They haven't looked good all year offensively. They can't score. Even with Weeden we're better offensively then them as of now.

Beat the Giants and Philly and then not much else matters before Romo comes back. Those are the two games that will define this season.

Actually, those are the two games we really need to focus on. Beat those two and we go 4-0 in the division with the Commanders to play. And we should have Romo back by then.

While I have lowered my expectation, I still think if this team gets healthy, we can do some damage in the playoffs, even on the road.

Some might be disappointed in the offensive line, but I'm not. Again, I think the meat of any team is the lines. And this offensive line will prove itself, if we can get everyone back and healthy. And I expect the defensive line to improve if Hardy and Gregory get back. And I'm not even accounting Ro at middle linebacker.

I think we're going to see more CMike from here on out.

We're just holding on until Romo gets back. The division is still within reach.

Again, I've tempered my expectations, but I wouldn't be surprised if - with everyone healthy - we still win the division and make it to the NFC Championship Game.

But we MUST win the Eagles and Giants games.

The Giants could get on a roll not because they are good but because their schedule is really light. Good Lord they have played next to nobody these past few weeks.

I wouldn't call the Falcons and the Bills next to nobody.

With Romo it could be 4-1 or 3-2

Minus all these players and Einstein coaches 2-3 of we are lucky... 1-4 likely

most likely this season is over and if by some miracle they would happen to get in the playoffs it don't matter because they are not going on the road and beat the packers or cardinals or falcons.

The issue is how does a Weeden led offense score against Seattle?

Is a Weeden led offense any better than a Stafford led offense? Not sure.

I like our chances with a healthy Dez Bryant, one of the best if not the best wide receivers in football. At home I think Dallas can win a lower scoring game.

Not impressed with Seattle this year. Their offense is not very good and Dallas will have their full defensive healthy. I would not write that off as a loss just yet.

New England on the other hand....

We can win any of the games, i'd only put the Patriots game as one we're serious dogs in.

Yeah Weeden is pretty bad but with Dez coming back and if our OL plays a little better we can put up 20-30 points a game.

Our defense has had chances to make plays but dropped the ball. Even with our decimated pass rush we've had opportunities for turnovers, and most likely would have won both games if we took advantage.

With a better pass rush we'll get more chances, and if our DB's play with a chip on their shoulder, those dropped turnovers can turn into big plays. That's really all we need to beat 4 of the next 5 teams.
