So, is Miles Austin our #1 receiver now?

I don't care honestly... He just needs to be on the field and have the ball thrown to him more. He and Williams will be nice 1-2 in my opinion, as long as Romo can deliver the freaking ball!

I'd like to think Miles Austin will be the starting number 2 October 25th.

Monster game for us.

Cross roads game.

We should be ready to roll with a healthy Felix, Barber, and Roy.

I hope we just leave Crayton in the slot. He is a heck of a slot receiver.

He isn't a bad starting receiver either. But Austin just has the upside and big play ability.

True but lets see if any other receivers drops 10 catches for 250.

I mean if they are so bad everyone should be able to have big days like that.

If anything the secondary for the Chiefs is their strength.

You are correct sir, they had a top 10 secondary ranking prior to Miles Austin's explosion.

Admittedly, my opinion of this Cowboys team is somewhat negative, and their performance against the Chiefs has done nothing to dissuade me from it. However, even I'm baffled by those who would downplay Austin's game today.

He didn't just play a good game; he played a historic, record-breaking game. Given the inconsistent production by the wide receivers, Austin has more than earned the opportunity to start next game.

It's not as if Austin is some scrub player who emerged from nowhere and played well in solely this game. The Cowboys have been developing Austin for three years now. When he's had both health and opportunity, he's made big plays.

I agree... Dallas needs to really buckle up and play physical football!

OK, again, I have the game Tivo'd and just watched it frame by frame.

Had he just dived on his that same trajectory, he could've caught the ball.

He didn't have to contort to make the play or dive at some odd angle as your implying.

I'm not playing armchair QB, but I am saying had he caught that pass or even one of the other TD passes, then there would've been no need for late game heroics.

That said, Austin, admittedly, had a great game.
He couldn't keep the same trajectory. He reached for the ball with his outside (right) hand, meaning he couldn't grab it with his left hand. He wasn't going to make a one-handed diving catch. He would have had to get two hands on it. Meaning he would have had to dive outside to get the left hand closer to the ball. So his trajectory couldn't have stayed the same. The dive would have carried him out of bounds.

Here is my WR Depth Chart
1. Miles Austin
2. Roy Williams
3. Patrick Crayton (He is great in the slot)
4. Ogletree/Hurd

Whatever dude.

I give up, cuz you're just being argumentative.

I don't see how anyone with rational opinion and basic knowledge of the game can look at the same play and not see that he could've dove and caught the ball without going out of bounds.

I've seen any number of WRs make that same play, but you keep fighting the good fight.

Roy has commented on Romo missing him a couple of times - making excuses for his lack of production since being traded.

He's been here almost a full season and I don't think he has even broken 400 yards receiving yet. All this from a guy who cost a 1st and a 3rd and got $45 million dollars. He should keep his mouth shut and appreciate that he is being paid handsomely despite his rapidly diminishing skills.

I'm sick of Roy11's smug attitude and shadow blame games. Miles did today what Roy has failed to do in absolution.

Roy is above average- barely, and definitely not the right mold for a #1 for this ballclub. He lacks the quicks and post catch speed this team needs to combo with Tony's release and progressions.

He gallops more than digs, rounds out his pass routes without any discipline. He has great hands and at times is acrobatic yes, but othertimes looks very very clumsy and plodding. He is Keyshawn-esque, but nearly as good.

And his attitude sucks to high heaven.

He blocks well I give him that.

We paid a high price for someone that is enamored with himself and not winning football games. At least T.O. produced. Now that Miles has shown himself worthy- watch Roy cry and try and get out of Dallas as fast as possible.

I say Austin is the X
Williams the Y
and Crayton the Z

For now, and if Williams still fails to deliver, Hurd should start opposite Austin and Crayton can be the Z where he really seems to flourish to begin with.

If the secondary lineup listead above fails we have no place for Roy and he should be dealt for a mid round pick or a McDonald's happy meal, and we'll see what K.O. can do and draft a 1st or 2nd round WR.

Btw, does anybody know how many drops the WRs have so far this year?

Also, how many drops they last at this point last year?

Surely they will start Austin after this game today. Nothing agaisnt Crayton. I think he is a good player, but Austin just has the upside and the big play ability.

So do they move Roy to Z? Does Austin know the Z position?

It should be interesting to see what happens.

Thoughts?

I usually leave the strategies to coach Jerry and his staff

It'll be a one week love affair then back to mediocrity.

Crayton
Week 1: 4rec 135yds 1TD
Since: 11rec 108yds 0TD

Austin:
Week 4: 10rec 250yds 2TD
Prior: 5rec 81yds 1TD

Roy:
Week 1: 3rec 86yds 1TD
Since: 8rec 128yds 0TD

Know what I'm seeing...inconsistancy among the WRs. With 28 receptions 259yds 1TD, Jason Witten is still this team's most consistant pass catcher. This offense needs to focus and find its passing game and quick b/c after the bye, the schedule really gets tough.

You can pretty much throw the stats from that first game out... that was just bad defense. Most of the time they were wide open and it was simply blown assignments on the defense. But this game it was the opposite. The coverage on austin was pretty good, but he simply made plays when given the chance. Yeah, he did drop that one, even though the defender knocked it out, you still have to make that grab for a td. This was the first time this year that tony has looked in sync with a receiver. The coverage was there, but the timing between romo and austin was great

No, you can't throw out the first game. Nobody throws our our defensive stats when we just "blow a coverage". The stats are what they are. None of the other 16 starting QBs that play the Bucs this year will have their stats"thrown out". You play who you play. Period. If you wan to play that game, Romo should have had 2 more TD passes today. Do we just give them to him?

My point is in that game, its not that our receivers stepped up. They were wide open because of busted coverages. But today, austin made plays against good coverage play after play. The point i'm trying to get across is that what he showed today, seems like he can be a lot more reliable than those other guys. It's different when you are making plays like he was today.

Roy Williams doesn't suck.

No, but he's is a slightly above average talent, with unrealistic expectations, making ungodly money. Therefore one of the frustrated masses favorite targets.
