Well for one, I see you comparing Apples and Oranges. Guards don't give up very many sacks. They also are sheilded from the ref so they won't pick up as many penalties. Buenning is guard, so is Mankins.

Brown played well and so did Roos. They of course were picked #13 and #41 overall. Petitti was picked #209 overall. Seems like a bargain to me.

What's the bargain? You could sign a guy for NFL vet min who could do an equal job. Pettiti played about as bad as any OL I've seen start for a whole year.

The only defense I will offer Pettiti is that Sprano is not an NFL quality OL coach and every member of the line underachieved this year, including the vets.

Ware is the very least of our concerns and our Cowboys are very fortunate to have him! I would not trade Ware for Merriman......character is important when talent is equal

Pettiti didnt deserve it, Alex Barron or the guy other guy from NE deserves it more, and they played twice as good as him.

Barron allowed only 5.75 sacks, but he started only 11 games and was flagged for 16 penalties. Kaczur started only 11 games and allowed 8.25 sacks, which prorates to 12 sacks for a 16-game season. So Petitti allowed only 1.5 more sacks than Kaczur would have over 16 games, despite having a quarterback who gets sacked far more often.

Petitti might have struggled, and those guys might have played better, but it wasn't by much, if at all.

Good for Petitti. Considering everything he went through this year. Tough year. He'll be vastly improved next year.

True, I could see Merriman pulling some sean tayloresque shenanigans sometime inthe near future. I think all this media hype is going to his head. plus he's represented by the postons who knows what kind of contract demand/renegotiations he will ask for in the future.

I just think it was another unfortunate situation, kinda like vinny at QB. Petitti was never supposed to start this year, he probably wouldn't have even gotten much playing time, if Rogers and Flozell didn't get hurt. Petitti will have to mold his body and get more quickness over the years if he ever plans to start. I think worst case scenario, he is a solid backup for awhile.

This is what I expect after his peformance from this year. Anything better I would be happy with.

does it really matter if you think he deserves it or not? a professional service, using the same criteria for everyone, has deemed him deserving. that should be good enough for anyone, it is for me.

I haven't lost faith in Rob and I hope Rob is not listening to his critics... It was a hard learning experience though

Are they just giving it to him because he started 16 games? That is good and all but if they actually evaluated his performance in those games, I hardly think he would be on the team.

Make your All Rookie team up. Let's see if we agree or think its a joke.

There were some kind of bad rookies at some positions this year (QB). If it were a traditional OL, Petitti wouldn't have made it. Roos and Brown probably would have. Buenning was a no brainer at guard. Mankins started all year on a playoff team.

I thought Ourlads was the most accurate I had seen so far.

I was just posting my opinion. They included 3 OT's and 2 OG's simply because there were 2 rookie C's who started. IMO Pettiti deserved a honorable mention but it kinda seems Ourlads threw this together at the end of the season.

point is this is a subjective analysis. according to their criteria, he is deserving. this makes no comment as to future play. i believe this heavily weights on games started and only meant to state a rookie's impact "playing time" relative to other team draft picks. this whole analysis is so meaningless, i can't believe people feel the need to comment at all.

I'm kind of with you on that... if ten different services does an all rookie team, you'd have ten different teams. Everybody has their own opinion and grading criteria.

This is just what the guys at Ourlad's think.

Very true, and since there arent that many stats for Olineman they simply picked the rookies who started the most. This is why I think they just threw this together at the end of the year.

A very good point they make about Ware. Must be double teamed. How many guys coming out of a small school can they say that about in Year 1? The very talented Osi Omenyiora -- also from Troy -- managed a single sack in his first year. And he had Strahan on the other side -- not Al Singleton and Scott Fujita.

We have a serious stud on our hands.

I just want to point this out so you don't try to drop it into arguements in the future, but this doesn't make any sense?

Osi is a DE opposite another DE. He is a full time rusher. I think you can expect teams to account for the 4 primary full time rushers.

As for Ware, he is also primarily a full time rusher opposite our other full time rusher, Greg Ellis. Again.... 4 primary full time rushers.

Ellis might not be the pass rusher that Strahan is, but he's certainly not someone you can completely dismiss either.

If this still isn't a fair comparison, then I think you need to stick to just teams that run a 3-4.

Looking over the first page on the Top Sacks list I see...

Joey Porter (an ILB) 10.5 Sacks
Shawn Merrirman (LOLB) 10 Sacks
Clark Haggins (LOLB) 9 Sacks
Ware (LOLB) 8 Sacks
Ellis (RDE) 8 Sacks
Bryant Young (RDE) 8 Sacks

So it certainly doesn't seem like he did too poorly to me, or that he was complimented any worse than any other LB in a 3-4.
