Name actors who you think are overrated and underrated. I guess we can keep it to the last couple of decades or so. Also, for the overrated ones, i'm talking about actors that are considered good by the media and get good parts in movies but you personally believe they aren't that good.

To begin with, mine are and i'm sure i will be reminded of some more as this thread progresses, if it progresses:)

Overrated:
Tom Cruise
Kevin Costner
Keanu Reeves

Underrated:
Edward Norton
Philip Seymour
Christian Bale
Alfred Molina
Gary Olman

How is Phillip Seymour Hoffman underrated? He's an academy award winner.

Norton has two nominations.

Bale is widely haled in many circles as the best actor presently working.

True but non of them get the kind of media coverage and hoopla that others like Tom Cruise get.

Eddie Norton is very underrated IMO.

Dude plays the skinhead in American History X, but he's also the King of Jerusalem (the one with the mask to cover his face) in Kingdom of Heaven.

He's got good "range". I guess.

I just watched Bale in 3:10 to Yuma recently, he's very good in that.

His acting as a skinhead was down right scary. The part where he makes the the black guy put his mouth on the curb and then stumps on his head stayed with me for a very long time.

I would definitely say Keanu is not overrated. It seems the general consensus on him is that he is a horrible actor. If anything I'd say he's underrated because he's better than most people give him credit for.

Jason Lee is underrated.

Jason Lee is underrated.

We would have to disagree on that one. I personally think he is a terrible actor.

I should say that the Matrix is one of my favorite movies but that's despite Keanu:)

Very talented. Also recall Norton in Fight Club.

Regardless of where they are rated....Nick Cage, Tom Cruise, Mark Whalberg, and Keanu Reeves are AWFUL actors IMO.

Not saying they aren't in some good movies...because each one has been in a few....just saying that overall, their acting is atrocious.

He's numero uno on my list of people I've sworn to punch in the face if I ever meet them.

I loved Raising Arizona. I liked Leaving Las Vegas and that snuff film he did (8mm?)...but that might be because I can barely remember them. He was decent in all three of them IIRC (better in the former)...but mostly because there wasn't much "acting" required for those parts.

He's ruined more potentially good movies than any actor in history as far as I'm concerned.

The worst. Thanks a ton Coppola.

I still can't believe he received the Life time Achievement Award in 1996 from the Montreal World Film Festival.

I don't give credence to any event held in the provence of Quebec.

1. Its cold up there. Everyone that lives in a cold climate drinks too much. I do stupid things when I drink, therefor everyone else does too.

2. Duh....they're French-Canadians!

This clearly fits the bill. :D

Nick Cage is the only actor who makes me think I could win an academy award.

He's on a different scale re: the suckage factor. Affleck, Keanu, yes they suck... but Cage is a whole new level.

Then there's the whole new generation of crappy actors. I think Paul Walker and Hayden Christiansen could end up giving Cage a run for his money before they're done.

I agree....but unless Walker and Christiansen have family pulling strings for them like Cage did....they've got a tough battle ahead just to get the opportunity.

Cage sells suckage by the tonnage.

I thought about putting him on my list but he just doesn't seem to get any roles anymore. But he is one of those actors that for some reason makes me mad every time i see him on the screen.
