Packers propose banning Tush Push

It's not happening. Nothing is stopping other teams from using the tush push themselves. The Eagles are just the team that perfected it, which makes it sting, I admit.

Having said that, there is something of an unfair aspect when other offensive players can literally push Hurts or any QB forward for a first down. To me this is going to be a fad that goes away eventually. Once a QB gets his knee or leg twisted up into a season ending injury because of the tush push, it's going to fall out of favor faster than the wildcat formation.

Used to be a runner could not be assisted or carried to advance the ball.. what the heck happened when they allowed the tush push.?
I was thinking the same thing. Assisting a ball carrier by pushing him forward has to be considered just as bad as holding, because it is putting the defense at a clear and distinct disadvantage.

To be honest, it can be easily stop if the league allowed defensive players to push each other as well.

This is exactly why they should ban it to be honest. I am sure some teams do not think it's worth their 40 million dollar player to even take a chance for this to happen.

I have seen the injury concern be brought up a lot when discussing this play.

I think some players have spoken out about it...Chris Jones?

I just do not see where the concern is for the QB here?

My concern with it is that 4th and shorts will now be a rugby play...and I can see this plays formation being used to set up trick plays where it's basically one on one with WR and the defender, with the defender having literally no help. Just seems like it could turn into easy scores using the formation dor trick plays.

The defense literally has to bunch up like 7 or 8 guys to try and stop it...leaving the defense to contain the ends with 2 players and having to protect the entire field. It puts a defense in a position to have to guard against a deep ball/chunk play/TD via trick play or give up the first down because they arent putting 6 plus players in the middle to try and stop the push.

It COULD have significant implications to the game for the viewer. COULD.

During a field goal a defensive player is not allowed to use another player as leverage to try to block a FG. How is another player allowed to push a runner. I seen too many 320 LB pound men crashing into a a RB and a player tackling them to get extra yardage. How is that safe

That's the argument for me that makes the most sense.

They don't let the defense do it, but the offense can.

Otherwise, I think the Eagles should be rewarded for their ingenuity.

I could be wrong but I believe the defense can do it, its just a special teams issue with a long snapper in the game that is the issue.

The rule should be that when behind the line of scrimmage you cannot push the ball carrier forward.
That’s just entirely arbitrary though. What about the LOS makes pushing good/bad/whatever on one side and not the other?

Don’t need a rule for it. Stop it.

I don’t like it. I think it’s a boring play but those aren’t good enough reasons to just ban it.

Pulling a player forward has always been against the rules. There has never been a rule to stop pushing. That's been going on to a small extent since the beginning of time. If a lineman shoves are running back from behind, it's not a penalty, the eagles have just exploited it beyond exploitation and I agree it should be stopped.

I thought the same.

For all they pretend to care about player safety it’s a pretty dangerous play.

It not about the Eagles either. I don’t care, just always thought there was a rule against “assisting the ball carrier.” That doesn’t qualify?

It used to be a rule. They changed it. Now you can push a player but you can't pull him.

What the heck happened when every single team started pushing WRs or RBs that got haulted by 2 or 3 defenders, to move the pile forward?

A group-gangle tackle on 1 offensive player, led to a group of offensive players coming to assist/push forward the ball carrier, which then led to assist/push forward the QB

Every team has been doing this for years to get an extra yard or two....Philly is just the first to extend it to the QB as the ball carrier.

Really need to make it ALL illegal, if you're going to make the brotherly shove illegal.
