Pacman a Cowboy! ***Mega Merge***

Wow, go to a meeting and come back to this.

like many on the board I think a 4th is too high but if he's not reinstated we get it back, so that's low risk.

Talent-wise, he's obviously worth it. But that 5-cent head....

David, that's too big a gamble, IMO.

There's no guarantee he'll play.

They cannot change their draft board because of this trade.

Its not that far fetched either though and I think they wont take a corner @ 22 now. Maybe Flowers @ 28.

I dont think the timing of this deal is a coincedence. They are trying to get flexibility.

I've been pro the Pacman deal for some time, so don't even begin to assume I don't know what he adds to the team. I simply am not happy with how much we gave up for him.
With the insurance pick though there is less of a gamble. Getting that part of deal is why they were willing to go higher offer wise. Minimizes the risk.

I agree but the one thing you gotta be glad about is if he doesnt play we can get our pick back next year.

We did give up to much though. A 4th rounder with no bidders is crazy.

It doesn't say we will get our pick back.. it says a pick.

I don't see it being a 4th rounder. What would the Titans gain for us to have a look see? I could see a 5th - 7th rounder in 2009 returned if he isn't reinstated.

Sources: Cowboys agree on deal to acquire Pacman from Titans
ESPN.com news services

Updated: April 23, 2008, 6:27 PM ET

The Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans have agreed in principle on a trade for suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Dallas will send its fourth-round pick in Saturday's draft to the Titans for Jones.

There are also conditions attached to the trade related to Jones being reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and how much he plays for the Cowboys. If he plays a significant amount of time in 2008, the Titans will get an additional pick from the Cowboys in 2009.

If he doesn't get reinstated by the NFL, the Titans will send an undisclosed 2009 draft pick back to the Cowboys.

Also, Pacman has reached a financial settlement with the Titans regarding his contract situation. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Jones must pay $500,000 to a charity chosen by the Titans sometime in the next two years. He will receive a new contract from the Cowboys.

ESPN NFL reporters Ed Werder and Chris Mortensen contributed to this report.

I was just about to post the same thing.

Think about it. We have three talented corners as of right now, but each has his own "issues". Henry can't stay healthy. Newman might want too much loot next year. Pacman's issues are well documented.

We could be looking at Flowers as a guy that could be a "tweener" CB/FS. He could eventually end up replacing any of our three corners, OR our current FS. I still don't like him at 28 though. Maybe that trade with Miami has some merit...I'd take him at 32 if we could recoup our 4th.

I love this move.

This is exactly what 4th-round picks are for. High-upside guys with significant question marks. That's what Stanback was last year (and still is). That's what Barber was a few years ago. With Jones, the risk is higher, but the potential reward is immense. Great move, Jerry, but only if you hedge it by picking a solid CB in the draft. Both the positional need and the risk with Jones are very real.

The Cowboys covered themselves by being able to recoup the 4th-rounder next year.

The only way this blows up in Dallas' face is if they change their draft board, don't pick a cornerback, then Adam isn't reinstated.

Schefter and Mort have both said we will get A 4TH back.

I would imagine that the undisclosed pick we would receive back if Jones runs into trouble would be dependent upon when he ran into trouble (ie. how many games into the season, if at all).

By the way, I think it's a dumb move, but it has a high reward value. Tarnishing the star has been tried before, but never successfully, so I don't think Jones, even under his worst behavior can do it either.

so if pacman bombs we move up in the 4th but a year later, providing we finish better than the titans?

doubt we get the 4th back. that would be pretty stupid for tennessee.

I was just going off of what the article said from ESPN.

If true, then that is a good deal.

I do wonder what the pick would be next year that the Boys would have to give up for Pacman playing and being reinstated.

Yeah, it says "undisclosed" 2009 pick. If it comes to that we'll most likely settle for whatever the Titans offer.

That was my thought as well... guess we will just have to see when it becomes official.

Like I said in my previous post, what would that second pick be in 2009 be? My guess is a 5th rounder which wouldn't be too bad if Pacman played like he is suppose to and kept his nose clean.
