"Pacman" meets with Goodell, drops appeal

NEW YORK (AP) Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones withdrew the appeal of his suspension Tuesday and will serve the one-year term imposed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

"I understand my responsibilities to my teammates, the Titans and my fans and I am committed to turning my life around and being a positive member of the NFL," Jones said in a statement issued by his agent.

Jones met with Goodell at NFL headquarters Tuesday and was accompanied to New York by agent Michael Huyghue.

"Last week, I asked for an opportunity to meet privately with commissioner Goodell," Jones said in the statement. "I met with him earlier today to tell him about the steps I have taken to change my life since being suspended by the NFL. I accept the discipline that's been imposed on me and I am withdrawing my appeal."

Goodell suspended Jones on April 10 for a series of off-field episodes. He has been interviewed by police 10 times and been arrested five times since he was drafted in 2005. Jones and his attorneys appealed the suspension May 11. It could be reduced to 10 games if Jones meets all the restrictions set by Goodell.

Huyghue said Jones intended to keep working out and would go back to school, taking courses online from West Virginia University, where he played.

Oh yeah, go back to Morgantown for a year, that's a TERRIFIC way to stay out of trouble...

ROTFLMAO... for those not in the know, "Morgantown" is hillbilly for "Gomorrah"... a true party town if ever there was one...

wonder where are all the posters who were so rabid about the evil commissioner and poor ol beat up Pacman? Who were so sure that the federal courts would get involved and make that mean ol commissioner back down for poor little pacman.

and PacMan didn't have a chance in hell, which is why he's not appealing, not because he's finally seen the light

Classes have started again and things have been hectic at my store. While it indeed is fun to banter I do have a life to live.

I would first like to reiterate for the six thousandth time that I am not proJones but rather antiGoodell. i still think it appalling that he feels he is above the courts in assigning guilt to the accused and I will always hold him in contempt for that. If you dont like that or dont understand that is a big case of not my problem.

Additionally I had conceded about a week ago that Goodell was completely within his authority to suspend Pacman. After 150 posts in a thread it was finally brought to light one line in the players contract that gives him said authority. It wasnt demonstrated by any of you so I dont know what you guys are so pleased about.

Also considering we have no idea what was actually said or discussed in the meeting beyond the spin laid out by Jones there is really nothing to comment on.

I told you that when this argument 1st came up awhile ago that the CBA gave him the power to suspend PacMan, it was only until Adam completely obliterated you by breaking the whole thing down do you now concede

oh well, you are ignorant and have been exposed as such

im not sure what youre trying to get at summer. he didnt spell anything out to me. iw as correct in saying that the conduct policy in and of itself doesnt give teh commisioner the authority. it was one single line in section 15 of the players contract that granted the authority in very simple terms. all of the preceding discussion proved nothing.

as for my ignorance nobody outside of adam knew about that single line so I dont know why your thumping your chest as if it means something.

i never used the fair trade act so youre making stuff up and as for due process i see you still fail to grasp the context in which people are using it in terms of goodells actions. this doesnt surprise me as you very often fail to grasp simple concepts.

And what would that be? Your moral basis for disliking dogfighting or your blinders when it comes to athletes that aree accused of anything? Or is this just you throwing crap out there and seeing what gets by? what concept do i niot understand?

Sorry but its not asif i dont understand the reasoning that is put up; its your bloody opinion. just because I dont agree with something doesnt mean i dont understand the differing view. quite the contrary but in your little myopic view of the owrld that concept just doesnt fit.

in your world, anyone who doesnt think that any athlete accused of anything should be nailed to the wall is an idiot. its actually pretty sad.

i kept arguing until it was actually demonstrated. once the clause of the players contract was brought up i dropped it because that was the only thing that demonstrated it.

and im not mad at you.

i didnt call anyone an idiot and dont try passing off your shortcomings onto me. were this a different forum i would be responding in a much different manner but despite the fact that you irritated me i am somehow able to control what i say.

im sorry for your inability to control your actions under streess especially considering you have to type them and hit a button before you are able to communicate.

you do know everything such as the player contract, falls under the CBA right? don't try to minimize your ignorance

"just a single line" :jerk:

that concept is ********, answer me this, has Goodell directly violated PacMan's right to due process? I know what you're trying to do, you're trying to prove that in a roundabout way, PacMan's due process right is being violated, that's impossible, it's either Goodell directly has messed w/ the process, or he hasn't

he hasn't

it looks this hasn't come back to bite Goodell in the arse like you stated at least twice, even though PacMan is a POS, I'm glad his lawyers don't subscribe to your theories, they would get mugged in a courtroom

Sounds like you're calling him an idiot, all right... after all, what is an idiot, but somebody who very often fails to grasp simple concepts??

You know, like what exactly constitutes an idiot...

Chuckle... it was an insult aimed at summer, but it's an observation of MY acts??

Talk about Fuzzy logic...

Face it, one post you're putting me down for lobbing insults (even as you apparently didn't grasp the insult being lobbed), the next post you're lobbing insults of your own...

But you lack even the honesty to admit what's clear for all to see-- you DID insult summer's intelligence, even as you professed distaste for acting like that... and that most assuredly DOES make you a card-carrying hypocrite...
