Hoov, you're a very reasonable Cowboys fan Hoov; that's why I'm uncertain why you believe Duce Staley would such a huge contributing factor in the Eagles 2003 bid for the
Big Game. If he had been, he may have still been with us now (There are plenty Eagle fans that love Duce -- I'm not one of them. Duce did not have the control on the ball the way a playmaker running back type should have had. Far too many critical Plays occurred where Duce came up short). After thinking about it, I just can't bring myself to agree that ..."
once staley left they didnt have the ability to wear down defense in close games, they couldnt get a lead and play ball control."
Uncertain how these doom scenarios have a bearing on the Eagles ability to continue their successful efforts in a bid for another NFC Championship title; and ultimately the big game. You must have completely forgot about the Freddie Mitchell transition.
Hey Phoenix, thanks for the compliment.
Actually im not burying the eagles just yet..
My point is more along the lines of observing that over the last few years player personel has changed at wr, rb, db, lb, and now dlinemen. Yes the eagles made it to NFC championship now for several years in a row, 3 or 4 i cant remember right now. And TO was only here last year, but there were other players on eagles that are not here now so it is a different team, different team chemistry and i think the playbook changes some to allow for a teams strengths/weaknesses.
I feel that the eagles have to win passing the ball, which is normal for a wetscoast Offense. Westbrook and Moats combination doesnt strike me as one that will result in racking up the rushing yards week after week.
So if the eagles must pass to win, TO is more important this year....because after him the other wr's just dont excite me at all. Now westbrook is really like having another receiver cause he is so good in the passing game. still TO is going to have to be the guy now, the other guys are young, inexperienced and unproven.
In the past the eagles got by without a stud wr cause they had enough players that could do different things, guys that were good at one thing or another so they could be set in specific roles and be counted on to perform when their number was called. I think Duce was one of those guys, i remember him coming up big in several situations to keep the chains moving and he had a lot of heart. Maybe you are not fond of him, but i can remember many times when i thought a team had the eagles stopped and duce would get a 1st down.
And there are other players that were certain peices of the puzzle that have moved on or are injured so i would feel confident in stating that this year the eagles will need a good deal of production from TO, the guys that were go to guys in the past are gone, its TO and Westbrook. Now maybe LJ Smith steps it up this year, lets see.....
