The biggest point is that Fowler and Shanle aren't far apart as inside linebackers. If Shanle can draw a 4th, Fowler should be able to draw a conditional 7th. Coleman should be able to draw a 5th or 6th from a 3-4 team that needs a DE.

You are assuming Shanle actually did draw a 4th -- that's a great story to believe in but not at all likely.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying, but Shanle did start for us last year. I

and lost his starting position to Fowler

because Fowler is still competing for a spot whereas Shanle was pretty much done here and being showcased for a trade.

It is clear that Fowler is viewed as a player by Coach Parcells and he was even mentioned as being one of the undrafted free agents that equalized some of the draft mistakes.

He may be dangled for trade if we like Hoyte enough to keep him on the roster and he would certainly be able to get at least what we got for Shanle (7th round).

Well, I do hope we can pull something out the hat, I'm just being conservative and not trying to get my hopes up for a steal.

I don't claim to be a judge of talent and I have been wrong before but I haven't seen Carpenter do jack, I mean he's supposed to be a difference maker, an occasional hit or a behind the line tackle, sack, something, yea he's a rookie but we got others that are doing it, I got a bad feeling about this guy, the kind I get from some of our other o-line picks, hope I'm wrong but folks this guy hasn't earned his bonus yet, anybody else see this or am I just wrong....

Singleton is in last year of his 4 year contract with us. Doubt if we bring him back next year given our depth at LB. Also whether Ellis will be here next year totally depends on how well he plays, but also how fast Carpenter progresses Ellis does provide vet leadership as well--now that he has accepted new role & daily becoming more familiar/comfortable in it--he's a real worrywort. I do think Carpenter will be moved back to OLB next year but gained valuable versatility playing ILB this year. Of course we so deep at LB that Carpenter might have to fend off Burnett for that OLB next year.

I feel the same way. I wasn't enamored with the pick. I didn't really care for Fasano either. They are rookies and some can come in and dominate right a way, but most don't. It takes time to acclimate to the NFL game especially since Carpenter came in recovering from an injury. I will give all the picks time to prove they can be good Cowboys. You know, at least a couple of pre-season games before passing judgment. Okay, maybe a couple of seasons.

the teams that I saw needing a LB already made moves, the Saints, twice, and Pats, signing Seau, I think the Pats are going to continue to rely on their formula of having backups step into major contributing roles, if we trade a player, we'd probably only receive a low-round draft choice IMO

They will if they like the player enough and also so they do not have to compete with 30 other teams for the players services. If you wait for the cuts, you are basically gambling. So the question is, is the player worth the gamble?

no...

Don't forget about Tyson Thompson, I could see him generating a bit of interest.

But I think Kenyon Coleman is the most likely to be moved.

I think Kenyon Coleman will draw some interest--admittedly a late rounder but Parcells real good at those late round picks. Also think Fowler might be available depending on how Parcells views Hoyte. Do know Pats interested in Hoyte cause he was cited as a player they'd want if we cut him. If Parcells keeps Fowler, he might attempt trade Hoyte to Pats, or someone else, even if just for a conditional 7th pick--if he makes Pats team or their PS. Fowler might be of interest maybe to SF who got LB problems; that's why they didn't play 3-4 against us cause too many LBs injuried. Again, depending on what we got for Shanle, a late round pick is OK with me. Kincade is just another RB so doubt anybody willing give up any picks for him. Forget the guys who can help us like Singleton, Burnett, etc., cause we won't trade them away.

I suppose it possible there some interest in Ellis but doubt we trade him (8 sacks last year) cause he apparently doing pretty good in 3-4 as OLB, unless we get a bonanza draft pick/player for him--2nd rounder??

During the game, Babe mentioned that Parcells said that it was a "quality" pick that they got for Shanle. Then Babe said to Mickey its suppose to be a 7th right? That the Saints weren't going to give up a 5th since they knew Shanle was going to be cut. Then he said he needed to ask Parcells what was a "non quality" pick.

Makes me wonder if maybe the local guys really did miss the boat on the compensation.

The comment by BP was teams are calling about our players. No team is going to call about a player that will be cut on 9/07, so the fowlers, cloeman, kincade, are sure not going to generate interest.

The players that probably are getting interest are the Burnett, Tyson Thompson, Al Johnson, Hannam,Polite, Procter, Thomas Johnson, and Reeves.

Any good Gm or Scout will not ask for the ones getting cut, but the ones that are young enough that won't cost that much.

There is such a thing as a waiver wire. The way it is set up, teams that got the first picks in the last draft get first choice on players released. So the Texans are unlikely to pay for someone who might be cut and go to waivers because they can have them anyway unless some other team wanted them enough to pay, keeping them away from the waiver wire. New Orleans is next. They wanted Shanle bad enough to pay for him to keep him from possibly going to the Texans. So ......

Look for another LB or two to be traded and maybe some others. Possible trade bait:

Singleton, Fowler, Boiman, Hoyte, Glymph
Kenyon Coleman, Nate Jones, Willie Pile
Tyson Thompson, Fabini, Sean Ryan, Tony Curtis, Terrance Copper and Al Johnson

What positions would Dallas want?
WR, DT, OL, TE and most importantly a punter who can kickoff, possibly a young QB

I really don't think we need to trade for a TE, we're stocked at that position.

No way we trading Singleton, Boiman, Nate Jones, TT or Johnson. All provide valuable depth. If we trade a LB it will be between Fowler & Hoyte with us giving up the player we don't keep. We could trade either Ryan or Curtis but doubt we do both unless we keeping Polite. Pile might be of interest; same goes for Coleman; Glymph who knows. In any case wouldn't expect anything more then late picks for them unless we get 1-2 players of need in return like maybe a vet backup NT.
