Parcells changed the culture of the franchise. That’s been properly stated. He also give us “no Jap plays,” Jason Witten, and just calling TO the player.
Ware written romo. We have some good players here today in 2020. Dak, zeke, amari, Demarcus....but none are even flirting with becoming transcendent

I listened to a cool Demarcus ware interview on the Ryan russillo podcast that i highly recommended to my fellow cowboys fans. Great stories In There he tells.

anyways, I was curious how old some of you cowboys are and I’m curious what the parcells era meant to you?

For me I’m an old fan at 32. When he came on board we was acting like we had the tonic. We had the secret sauce we had the anecdote. And boy we came damn close without coming damn near close. That’s my recollection anyway. What do you guys remember about that era and the before and aftermath?

He improved the team, but quit when it needed him most. Found some players, added a few good ones but also brought in over the hill duds he was comfortable with.

Overrated tenure here. Mercenary coach that walked away from a potential Super Bowl team. Screw Parcells.

i was stunned when he took the gig.
he was exactly the right man at the right time.
always loved that coach.
wish he had stayed.
we could use some more like him round the ranch.
He carried himself like he was bigger than the game. Which rubs some people the wrong way. But as I get older the more I think I get it. Football is an excuse to be wreckless and dangerous and silly and focused. It’s a gift.

some guys like Jason Garrett are to scared to even unwrap the gift. Other guys like parcells have no problem unwrapping the gift and cursing that it’s socks again.

In that analogy I mean: parcells said stuff that some guys hated. And for some it was inspiring.

he said stuff that would come across as crazy if a cart wrangler at your local supermarket said. But when said by someone who carries the weight and gravitas of the head coach of America’s team on a Downswing you listen. Not BECAUSE he’s the cowboys coach but because you’re being coached by the cowboys coach and you mine as well listen. For now. Since he’s in charge. And after awhile some of these less ones started to resonate and permeate with our good players and our good players became great. Demarcus ware, Tony romo and Jason witten were great. They okayed great in great games.

I think parcells wasn’t afraid to usher in a brotherhood. That’s why that Seattle loss meant so much to him. I don’t think these guys know it and I don’t think he can put it in words himself but i think Parcells had fun here. Football was important when he was the coach of my team

Outside of Keyshawn, I don’t know many who weren’t solid here. I’m sure I’m missing a few

Ferguson, Glenn, Anderson, Fabini, Campbell

I don’t really count Testaverde since he was about 84 when we signed him lol

Parcells had a system that held everyone accountable to themselves, the coaches and their teammates. Kinda like what Bill does in NE.

How did Jerry push him out?

Publicly, Parcels said he was burned out and didn't want to go through another heart breaking game like the Seattle loss.

Behind the scenes jerry was doing what he does. Injecting himself into different team meetings, wanting to be consulted on game plans, sideline visits during games. The usual. Also, the cowboys hit on a couple great players drafting in the parcels era but way more bust than boom.

I am more than twice your age and I am still a young man! LOL

Anyway, sounds like I am in the minority but I thought Parcells was a big disappointment. He was 34-30 in his 4 years in Dallas, going 10-6, 6-10, 9-7, 9-7 and making the playoffs twice. Both playoff appearances were one and done.

Prior to Parcells the Cowboys were plagued by age, retirements, and Jerry taking over the drafts. Parcells started with Quincy Carter as the QB and ended with Tony Romo, but had Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe in between.

I expected better from Parcells and maybe Jerry's interference was part of the problem. The Parcell's drafts had some winners and maybe the biggest reach/bust, Bobby Carpenter, since Rod Hill was drafted in 1982.

Wade Phillips, son of Bum, replaced Parcells and the Cowboys went 13-3 in 2007. Of course a lot of that had to do with the Cowboys finally getting a decent QB in Tony Romo. Again they lost in the first round of the playoffs, despite being the top seed.

To me, the Parcells years were 4 years of mediocrity.

I remember good solid fundamentally tough teams. I remember “gotta have a mental clock Tony” “put the anointing oil away” “don’t drink the kool aid” “pepperoni on rye”. The pressers were always entertaining, although I spent more time those days watching highlight videos to the likes of “there goes my hero” and “boom here come the boom”.

A staff member tried to say garrett accomplished more than Parcells in dallas ol. Garrett can take his 2 little wild card wins and shove em up somewhere. When bill was here we didnt see a soft team, i know that much

Pacells came to Dallas resting on what he did with the giants. What he actually did in Dallas was win ZERO division titles and went to two wildcard games and lost both. Parcells and McCarthy have a lot in common. They both had done things before coming to the Cowboys and have done little after they came. At least McCarthy has the excuse of coming to a new team when there was no off season programs, no preseason games and an extremely altered training camp to deal with.

lol when some don’t remember 2000, 01 & 02. They were pure crap. Parcells put a playoff caliber team together. After taking over a .300 squad that was just as sad as they were pathetic. Let’s not pretend that McCarthy started with the same problems. The Owens situation pushed him out the door. That was glaringly obvious! Then Jerry’s decision making abilities on day one after BP once again killed this team. The clown show of Phillips and Garrett, then the Williams trade, the special teams draft on and on and on and on..... Parcells brought something that didn’t exist in the post Jimmy Johnson era.. a brain and some balls and a team that was accountable. Don’t fool yourself.

As a Cowboy fan too young to really remember the early 90s the Parcells years were some of the most fun i've had.

Those years were also the years that i learned just how emotionally unstable fans were. in 2020 the Parcells years were sunshine and rainbows...in the moment he was viewed much more similar to Jason Garrett than people would like to admit.

yup exactly my sentiment. dude quit in the middle of building for n other reason but for selfishness, he didnt want to coach anymore and wanted a GM role..he never got it..

to me hes quitter wanted quick success couldn't handle the seatle loss and just Quit on us the team and in the middle of making the DC great again..

the thing most irritating about it is he let Peyton walk without letting SP know he was quitting and simply handed the job to SP..imagine Romo with Peyton vs Brees..im betting similar results.. we lost both coaches dude to parcel selfishness.he could have planed his exit must better..
