...in this case.

THere was a very astute and poignant comment that Parcells gave in this PC. At his age things happen. Loss of enthusiasm, illness and other vagaries of old age.

Anything can happen. Including another year behind the bench.

I hope it is not going to become a Favre like ordeal each year to see if BP will decide to come back for one more year. I want him to just say it is over at the end of whatever season becomes his last and until that day I don't want to hear him saying crap like, "If I come back I'll draft another TE." I want him to act and think like he is going to be here forever until the day he decides to hang it up...or until Jerry fires him, whichever comes first.

LITTLE Bill is a mastermind coach who won Super Bowls with players that were mostly drafted by BIG BILL and the team had HIS former asst coaches.

Even Switzer won a championship with a team ALREADY full of talented players and very good asst coaches. And we all know what happened when all of Jimmy's coaches and most of his draft picks were no longer with the Cowboys.

Now, IMO LITTLE Bill is a good coach, but let's see what happens now that alot of BIG BILL'S draft picks are not on the team(like last year).

Bill Parcells has never had his version of LITTLE Bill's browns.

I agree with you. Though they did add some good players during his drafts as well. And they did go 3 out of 4 under BB. Though it's true that most of the core players, especially on defense were drafted by BP, I wouldnt go as far as comparing Switzer with BB. Switzer won 1 Super Bowl with a team that was incredibly talented, while BB won 3. THat's a big difference.

Parcells hangs it up when he hangs it up. He's already retired and denounced ever coaching again, before signing with the Cowboys.

Vermeil made it to 69, we could still have 5 more years of the Tuna.

Belechick is a mastermind coach, and he deserves his credit as well. Though Crenell and Weis were under Parcells, they made their names under Bellechek...and I agree about the on track thing. Parcells has made this team ALOT better than it was at any point in the last 8 years.

Little Bill has done well for himself, but he still has never won anything without Weis and Crenell. Mmm, maybe they were the brains behind Parcells, not little Bill ;)

I'll be glad to keep BP as long as he will stay...but I want Saban afterwards....I think Saban would be good for continuity also, similar style not to mention we have all of his old college players anyway...

Don't get your hopes up for Weis coming to Dallas when Parcell's retires, you'll be disappointed. He's returning ND to the top of the college football world and building a dynasty of his own at ND and is not going to leave anytime soon. It's his dream job. He graduated from ND and was spurned by the NFL for head coaching jobs for too long. NFL teams had the chance to hire him and never did. And don't argue that money talks, he signed an extension last year through 2015 for $4 million per. Sure he could always opt to leave at some point, but don't count on it, especially in the next year or two.

Weis's extension was made pretty much NFL proof. There is no longer an out for a specific NFL coaching job as there was in the first contract. AND it costs $15 million to buy it out now. Weis is not going anywhere for years.

15 mil is not going to keep Jerry Jones out of Weis' ear. Coaching is the one aspect in today's watered down NFL that can make the difference, and it's exlusive of salary cap implications. If Jerry will throw out a $25 million dollar hook for T.O., the $15 mil for a guy like Weis is a no brainer.

Now, that is not to say that Weis would even be Jerry's guy, but don't delude yourself into thinking that 15 million will detract Jerry from what he wants, if that's TRULY what he wants.

"—Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he wanted a contract extension from owner Jerry Jones because it's not good business to be a lame duck coach in the final year of a contract. Parcells said he plans to honor the two years left on his agreement, which runs through 2007."

I am continually amazed at the number of people who think they can get definitive reads on the future by off-hand remarks. Even Bill doesn't not know if he'll be back next year.

Someone else recently thought something Jerry said indicated who the next HC would be after Bill. There is too much that happens over the course of time for either Bill or Jerry to know what they would do a year from now.

I love the way Parcells drafts. The more of them he oversees in Dallas, the better, IMHO.

The longer Parcells stays the more likely it is that Weis will leave ND. :)

Is this the same VA Cowboy that I know from another board?

If it is, you don't stop complaining about Parcells' draft over there.

I'd pay it.

But ayuh, Weis isn't going anywhere. I wouldn't even try to pry him away for 4-5 years at least.

Meaning we need another short timer coach in between Parcells and our attempts at Weis.

I'm thinking Holmgren.

It's debatable if this is good or bad news.

Yea he really has this franchise spinning in circles heading down the drain. Sarcasm! He has totally revamped the entire team in basically 2 years, we are younger, more talented and have a ton of cap space to work with for the long haul. What more do you want from the guy? Some people just are never happy.

I cant believe that no one lives in the now. I read so many threads like "who do we draft next year..." "who's our next coach". Worry about it when we need to.

Parcells said this when talking about Fasano and the Tight end position. To me it seems like Parcells is planning to finish out his contract!!

"I have a little more inclination to want to acquire that position," Parcells said at this weekend's rookie mini-camp here at Valley Ranch. "If another one comes along next year, I'll take another one."

whatever happens with the coaching situation in dallas is fine with me. i think with or without bill we are gonna b alright in the long run. we almost have all the pieces put together 2 get back 2 the top in the NFC east..

Bill is not going to retire I've said it all along. My god it's all he's got left. The guy is healthy, he's got a great job, his team is coming along right on schedule, good relationship (possibly even considered great) with his boss- he'd be kicking himself in the ___ the second he walked away if he did before he was ready. This talk was stupid last season and so much more ridiculous this season, especially at this point. I give him 3 more years mininmum. I very well think the whole world could be surprised and see Bill stick around for a very long time. People always looking for trends where Bill is concerned, well in relation to the length he stays at jobs, he's right on course to do another NYG stint. Those other two can't be considered, health and bad owner relations drove him out of the AFC. 2009-2010, sometime around there is when I figure our next coach could come. And consider that the earliest it happens unless his health goes drastically bad here all of a sudden.
