Wow!

I completely agree!

And if this team can do that, they absolutely do deserve it!

I would love for it to happen, but based on what I have seen so far, I have little faith in it.

But for the record, I hope you're right and I'm wrong!

;)

You and me both. Now if i'd put money on that is another beast. A more reasonable prediction should be a 9 win season. Nothing GREAT by any means but its decent and it beats .500 lol. Low bar I know.....but baby steps....gotta crawl before you walk. If this team wants to do anything in the post season though sadly they need to have 10 or 11 wins. They need to be peaking in December. To have 9 wins means once again you had a very average or below average December.

I think Williams would do fine. He's certainly not a finished product but I'd be willing to bet he'd be more productive as the #2 than Austin would over the next 16 games.

The good news is with Romo, Dez, Witten, and a couple of nice slot guys like Harris and Beasley, even a good pass catcher out of the backfield in Murray, you don't need an all world 2nd WR.

But Williams has been the #2 for most of the year. You've been impressed with him as a #2? I mean don't get me wrong I like what he's done as a rookie but if it was a 5th or 6th year vet? I'd be livid. A lot of things Terrance does are mental. Makes a lot of mental mistakes and a lot of sloppy route running that results in no separation. But one thing I like about him is that he doesn't sulk when he makes a mistake. He looks to be even better the next time he gets a shot. He learns from his mistakes too and he's willing to learn.

No, I wouldn't even have a problem with 9-7.

A winning record would be enough for me.

I'd just hate to see another mediocre 8-8 season, only qualifying because the division was soooo bad.

Especially when it would likely mean a team with a better record would be out of the playoffs.

If this team goes 8-8 then they collapsed lol. 8-8 was fine for me at the beginning of this season but already having 7 wins? We lose 3 out of 4 games? Ouch.

I wasn't bringing race into it. He's been labeled the next Wes Welker and its not because he plays for the Pats. Its because he looks like him. But that's where the comparison stops. Amendola is NO Wes Welker and never will be. Just like how in the NBA when all those foreign 7 footers who could shoot 3's came in to the league they were all the next Dirk? Its the same with Wes Welker.

Amendola has proved nothing in this league including this year but he's hands down better than a healthy Miles. How you came to this realization.....only you will know.

Just watch them play and it's clear who's better.

Ppl were comparing amendola to welker when amendola was in Dallas training camp. It's not because he plays for the pats. His game is similar to welker. And he's very good at it. Injury prone is the only thing holding him back. Amendola is so much more explosive than miles at this point. Quicker, better hands than miles. Miles has dropped the same amount of balls as he's caught in the past 2 games. And you can't deny miles has the worst value contract on the team. And his days as a cowboy are numbered. Plain and simple. The sooner you come to terms with this harsh REALITY, the better.

Exactly my point.

They would be backing into the playoffs.

Not being there because they were good, but because the other three teams in their division were so bad and rules dictate that one of the four teams has to go.

Even going 2-2 and finishing 9-7 would be enough for me to at least accept it.

And it would show at least some tangible sign of improvement and reason to retain Garrett.

It's especially troubling when you paint yourself into a corner and have no other options.

If Romo misses a ton of time and then stinks when he returns, we can have the conversation then.

I think you would be hard-pressed to find a team, other than the Raiders, spending more money on players not contributing this year.

A dubious distinction.

Nonsense. Any player can go down at any time. I'm betting you'd not only complain about the loss of Romo (legit) but the fact he got so much money then couldn't play. Or do I owe you an apology???

If Dallas wants a real chance in the playoffs, they need Miles to return to form sooner than later. I think something finally clicked with Dunbar, they might have found the secret sauce? Well, now he is gone and they need Miles to produce, he at least makes opposing defense worry about him. That means less double teams on Dez and Witten and takes a linebacker out of the play.

I am done with Austin too but we need him for the remainder of this season to have any chance of a post-season win or two. Just my opinion........

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it has been mentioned a few times here that we will get little or no cap relief if Austin is cut next year. If that is indeed true, all we would get would be the newly open roster slot, which would have to be filled with someone who will play for a number that is very cap friendly, i.e. rookie or vet minimum. The following site says his newly restructured contract has 2014 cap hit of $8,248,400. But, if he is released it will have to make a pass through the mysterious cap algorithm, which come up with an entirely different number.

I agree about Miles being on the field for the rest of the year. Unless he's still slowed by his hamstring problem, I expect him to break out with a big game before it is over. That said, I'm not as yet convinced he's 100% back to normal.

This is not the time to talk about Ausitn's salary. The money for 2013 is spent and gone just like everyone else, it's irrelevant. What matters is can he help the team win and the answer is YES. Beasley, TWill and Miles all have a role and will all get their looks. We should happy about this, not nit-picking who is the better 4th or 5th option for Romo(Dez, Witten and Murray all come first). The more quality options for Romo the better.

People whose argument focuses only on the number of catches austin has really have no argument to begin with. Austin's role in this offense is not just limited to the number of balls he catches. He commands attention from the defense, diverting the focus (or at least diluting it) from Dez and Witten.

Dez had 16 targets in Austin's first game back. Anyone who thanks that's just a coincidence is clueless.

We get substantial relief by releasing him next year. And It's always a struggle to get down to 53, this isn't about a roster spot. We already have the receivers to replace him, just means another young player makes the roster, and barely costs anything.

We should have a countdown to Miles Austin's contract expiration date. I'm ready for him to move on elsewhere.

I never said otherwise so I don't know where your 'nonsense' is coming from. Maybe the facts about a pet cat struck a nerve.

Until something actually happens, save the baseless speculation.

I would agree that stats don't lie and that those of Miles are currently disappointing...but, IMO, he is the best #2 WR option when he can be on the field...he gets #1 CB consideration and that alone makes the other receivers (including TE) more open. As others have said, his big body also comes in to play when he is blocking downfield...I think it is just a matter of time before Tony starts to look his way in games and that is predicated on Miles being on the field and getting his timing back...it is easy to look at his huge salary against his lack of production and label him as a bust and that it is time to move on from him...but, that is talk for the off season...this year, he needs to be on the field as much as possible...the offense is at it's best when you can line him up with dez, witten and murray all at the same time. Tony just has to look his way more often and get something out of him while you can

I think this a very fair and measured response, seeing both sides of the debate while stating the obvious too. This team is better right now with him than without him.

We'll cross the other bridge when we come to it.
