I don't love the Patriots, I don't even like them, but it's hard not to admire so much about them.

Nitpicking, but Gronk is their WR1, regardless of what position he's listed at in the program. Blount is very talented, but has just been a knucklehead.

And they have best coach in the game, by a mile. That's all the paradigm you need.

Belichick is just too good...that offensive scheme is all him. All those play designs to get their receivers open, the mismatches on LBs, etc. You're not supposed to be able to win throwing it 50 times but it works in that system compared to Peyton's offense.

They got incredibly lucky on a 6th round QB which set them up for a long run. If you have the player at QB you can actually fake a good portion of the rest of an offense, hard to go the other way and have any consistency.

Edelman is a piece of work.

I love these short'ish but not tiny WRs like Edelman, Cobb, Cruz, etc and others like who are able to move the chains play after play.

The big plays down the field are nice but for the most part in the NFL it's about moving the chains and converting on 3rd downs.

Only explanation I can come up with is smart players and a coach that is not married to his favorite type of system and is smart enough to take advantage of having smart players. Ehe, it was worth a shot.

I came to that conclusion back about 10 years ago when Belichek decided his defensive backfield wasn't good enough and he took Troy Brown, who was previously a 100 catch slot WR for them, and decided "you go play slot CB for us" and low and behold it worked. I think Brown had like 3 interceptions the year they won the Superbowl.

It's all Brady. Period. Belichick wasn't a genius when he was on the Browns. Carroll wasn't a genius on the Pats. Give a coach a Wilson or a Brady and you have a team.

I know it's not that simple, but come on with the media slobbing on Kraft for being a genius owner. Bill cuts corners and signs deals with the devil because he has an amazing QB. They do have a great scheme, but it was beat today and fell short. Brady will be done before Romo (please?)

Belichick is good, but let's see how good he is without Brady.

It's another example of a good/great coach growing or catching lightning in a bottle with a good/great QB, just like Starr/Lombardi, Noll/Bradshaw, Walsh/Montana, Johnson/Aikman, etc.

My guess is that when Brady retires, Belichick walks himself.

Do you remember a guy by the name of Trent Dilfer? Don't get me wrong I think a great QB gives you much better odds but it is absolutely not the single factor.
