Patriots release Stanback

:laugh2: So's my 1997 Pontiac Grand AM GT :laugh2:

He played at a small school, yet his skills are obvious. As a rookie, he still has a way to go in order to catch up to NFL speed. I apologize for not spelling it out better for you. ;)

Stanback's washing out makes Crayton's accomplishments all the more impressive. Pat's a 7th round guy, who played mostly QB (1 year of WR) at a tiny tiny school, who doesn't have blazing speed or immense athleticism. Yet, Crayton's been at least an average starter, terrific slot guy, and is generally as reliable as they come on 3rd down and in the red zone.

Stanback was the single most overhyped 4th round pick in the history of the Dallas Cowboys.

Can we stop rueing now?
Why no. Do you not understand? On CowboysZone, to rue is LIFE !

Now, what other past player or coach (who may or may not have ever been a member of the team) has absolute zero impact on the 2010 Dallas Cowboys that we can possibly rue about? We're burning daylight! :)

" Stanback was one of those long shot projects to begin with. No huge shock that he couldn't catch on. Which makes it even more of a head scratcher as to why Dallas felt the need to burn a high 4th round pick on him."

I don't think the AOA situation is much different. Stanbeck had athletic ability, prospects such as that can pay off in the 4th - I'm fine with gambles like that, it's just to bad it didn't work out for either party.
I disagree....Stanback was a college QB. He had TO like measureables...and that enamored Jerry....finally someone CONVINCED Jerry to let go of that pet project. If Jerry was as stubborn as Al Davis, we would be in world of hurt...but Jerry is stubborn...which is why he hung on to the "Stanback hope" as long as he did. AOA was a DB in college. He will be fine.

This. Exactly this. Props.

I wish we had a forums points/ratings system.

I don't understand the AOA reference in this thread. Have there been reports that he's having a difficult time in OTA's?

...and yet I read on here that Crayton isn't a competitor. It's as if some of the posters on here have the memory of a goldfish.

Goldfish have memories?

What'd that cost us?

Sorry for Stanbach. Wish him well.

Was it a stupid pick by Dallas? Well in retrospect it didn't pay off so sure. But then I hope this organization never loses its patience for projects. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. And you certainly can't have a team full of them.

But again I'll give you Romo, Austin & maybe Crayton. Low to no investment on the front end but none came to camp ready to contribute. We had to hang with them, invest, be patient, wait for development. Romo we're told was dangerously close to being released, Austin was buried for years.

There is a place for projects in this league. Some will payoff, some won't. Don't throw the baby out with the bath.

I agree, he wasn't a stupid pick.

But it was pretty crazy about how nearly everyone was SO excited about him. It was Isaiah-Mania for a while there, as if he was a lock to become the next Jerry Rice.

THAT was silly, although that's probably part of what's fun about being a fan.

While I agree in general, I have to say that I hope we don't see too many more "projects" switching sports (i.e. basketball/baseball players) or positions (i.e. quarterback to wide receiver) unless they're drafted in the late rounds.

IMO, taking those types of projects any earlier than the 6th is far too big of a gamble, and more often than not, it seems as if the majority of the other teams don't seem to have valued him as high as they're taken anyway. Rounds 1-4 should be for football players....preferably football players that aren't switching sides of the ball, or moving from LB to Safety.

I still remember when people were convinced this guy had something and were willing to argue it to the death. Oops.

What a complete waste of a draft pick.
