Patriots release Stanback

Can I just say thank you for this mature response.

It is so refreshing to be able to share differences of opinion without someone bowing-up to defend their position or blow yours up at all costs. And it is way too rare here.

Thanks again.

I hesitantly accept your thanks....as I've been "that guy" more times than I'd like to admit. I wish I had the temperament to behave this well all of the time.

I think someone slipped something in my coffee. :)

No offense taken.

I don't mean to sound arrogant, either.

As far as why the Patriots signed him, I could only suggest that they felt the athletic ability he was blessed with was worth the minimum price tag they payed for him. They gave up far less for him than we did...

Like I said (somewhere), I'm not against these projects (although I prefer they not be changing sports or positions)...I'm just against these projects if it requires giving up more than say a 6th round draft pick for them.

It's simply my take on it....and it goes for all players like Stanback. It's not personal.

FWIW, I still don't see what anyone saw on the field outside of pure athleticism, speed, and some minimal return ability. As a wide receiver, at least to me.....he looked so bad I struggle for adjectives to describe it. It just wasn't there to me....fully willing to admit I'm no professional scout, and that I wasn't granted with the access to film and practices they were...but man, I just thought he sucked. Looked VERY unnatural. Very uncomfortable.

Again, just my opinion....and in no way do I intend this to come across as an "I told you so" post. I can respect those who saw what I didn't....I just can't see it myself.

Me either......he was never healthy enough to get a good read on him

I rock a mohawk, but I don't razor the sides, just use clippers, is that still a faux hawk?

actually shaving your head is huge pain in the butt

That explains a lot.

Stanback had a tremendous amount of physical talent. He just couldn't get that to translate onto the field. Too bad for him. He may still get another chance. Everyone is looking for an Austin.

yes because hair defines the man doc.

maybe I have a scar on my head that prevents me from shaving it, and I am really self conscience about it. maybe.

I think its funny you don't like me.

I think it's great. In fact, I think more people should come around.

If you've got any more, you should slip one in Brainpaint's "old sidewalkie". There is a rumor going around that he's into that sort of thing....

Maybe he'll let you braid his hair and....

It's DorkPaint. And I think I should slip a mickey into all the mod's drinks. Then I can do whatever I want for a couple hours. Whatever, I do what I want.

No, I disagree.

Stanback got more press than all of the rest of the Cowboys picks that year, combined. It was IsaiahMania.

Stanbeck was a QB once, AOA was a CB once. Both switched positions. Both got drafted first and foremost because of their athletic ability. Both went in the fourth round because it is a late enough round to gamble on a guy who may not be as polished, but still possesses the athletic ability of a higher round pick. Saying AOA was "a starter at FS in college and played the position well" doesn't mean much coming from division II. Again, both were chosen for their freak ability, that was the comparison I saw.

I guess it could be a stretch of a comparison - my bad, I'll go back to lurking/trolling.

It was a legit comparison, AOA may not be as unpolished for the position as was Stanback but it was still legit.. sheesh, the offseason :)

lol@ the 9 different WRONG ways people have misspelled the guys name in this thread

I kinda wish the Cowboys had taken Stanback as a QB, and given him the two to three years of bench time he'd need to work on his technique. He had lousy footwork in college (apparantly), but had a cannon arm. It's probably too late for him to do that now. Wasted opportunity. Could he have been that worse than Brad Johnson/whatsisface?

In reality, odds on hitting in the fourth round of the draft aren't that good anyways.

Oh, and Crayton was a WR in college who played one year of QB, not the other way around.
