for a " 2nd round " draft pick ?

You have to be kidding me...

You know what ? Now that rumor about Ellis and Crayton for Detroit's 2nd and 4th round draft pick is starting to make sense. Detroit's 2nd round pick is higher than KC's. The only problem I see is the salary cap angle, but I'm going to give you this for you guys to chew on:

How about if it wasn't Crayton, but Austin Miles ? It's well known that the Lions originally wanted Miles in the RW trade, so the interest is there, and if that's the case, then the 5 million dollars cap relief that the Cowboys would get in dealing away Ellis ( plus the 1.5 millions in relief they get by dealing away Miles ), would be used to sign Peppers to a long term contract.

hhummmmm....

I can't believe they could potentially consummate this deal for a 2nd rounder.

I am surprised that for a potential 2nd rounder more teams aren't involved.

Yeah, a 2nd for Peppers? Somethings sounds off about this to me.

The 2nd round pick is not the obstacle; it's the $16MM salary he's due next year by virtue of the franchise tag.

That's because Peppers has a strong say in where he'd want to go. 17 million dollars is alot of money to pay to a player who doesn't want to be on your team, and since there's no salary cap next season, meaning no " restricted FA" or " franchised players ", etc, etc, etc,.. he'd be free to walk away without getting anything in return.

Not to mention that even if there was a salary cap and all the regular rules would be in place, it would still be cost prohibit to franchise him again next season. His cap hit would be some where in the 20+ range because of the escalator.

If it's the 2nd rounder they got from KC then it's almost a 1st rounder. I think it's the 3rd pick in Rd2.

He would renegotiate and sign a new contract with the Pats.

For whatever reason, he wants out of Carolina.

I still can't believe we're only talking about a high 2nd rounder for Peppers.

There are so many teams in need for pass rushing DE, including 3-4 teams.

Heck, if we could trade Ellis to Carolina, give them our 2nd, and maybe even an extra 5th rounder, I'd seriously consider it.

sure, for 25 mil up front and 80 total.

bottom line is he won't be cheap by any means

...and we are talking about a guy who has 3.5 less sacks than Ellis over the past 2 seasons

...and he is 29 years old

...but yes he is a 10 sack per year type player where Ellis is an 8 that is 33.

Is that difference worth 70 mil? I don't think so.

Belechek and his crew are awesome! They rival Jimmy and his trades.

That means they traded a QB that had not played since HS, and an aging LB (Vrabel) for a 2nd round pick...then turn around and get Peppers????

Are you freakin kidding me??? Genius!!

It also said in the article that they really like Ray Malaluga from USC with there 1st pick. That would leave Mayo, Malaluga, and Peppers, and Thomas. That's pretty freakin stout.

It's amazing...what was there weakness a couple of years ago is starting to become a strength again...replacing the old, with the new.

Cheating or not cheating...they know how to build teams!

By the way, what is the reason he wants out of Carolina so bad?

He wants to be in a 34 scheme?

Peppers will only accept a trade to a 3-4 team and apparently 1 of 5 teams, which happens to include Dallas.

I'd be very surprised Dallas wasn't in on this if this was the cost. I suspect Dallas would gladly give up Ellis plus a pick for Peppers. Jerry loves big name guys. I can't see any team thinking a 3rd plus Ellis is worse than a straight up 2nd.
