Would making Spencer DE on third downs or obvious passing downs work?

I think he is too small to be a DE in the 3-4, he is listed on nfl.com as 255lbs.

Maybe on obvious passing downs that would work, he would just get pancaked on run plays however.

Well if we get rid of Ellis via trade, I wouldn't mind bringing Taylor in. He should be pretty cheap, cheaper than Ellis at this point, and could be a pass rush specialist with Spencer starting.

Peppers would be at the top of the list, but I fear he will cost way more than what the Cowboys can afford to give. Ware still has to be signed and I'm sure Peppers will want a monster contract. Taylor/Spencer would be a great compliment to Ware for much cheaper.

Yea, Peppers is going to want to get paid since this is probably his last contract.

I just dont see how we can afford to pay Peppers and Ware both "top 5" money unless Jerry knows for sure that the cap will be gone after next year.

No cap is the only way this works.

Schefter: Peppers will Not be a Patriot in 2009

Christopher Price of WEEI radio reports that Adam Schefter of the NFL Network told WEEI's "Dennis & Callahan" this morning that Julius Peppers will not play for New England in 2009. This would appear to contradict a report yesterday from NFL.com reporter Vic Carucci that indicated the Patriots and Carolina Panthers were working on a deal that would send Peppers to New England for the 34th pick in the upcoming draft.

I sure am.

Ellis, Crayton, and Carpenter would all start in Carolina. 3 for 1. I'll throw in Coakley just to be kind.

LOL, The way this is worded makes it sound like a rumor...

"My cousin Chris said that some guy named Adam told the host of a radio station this morning that Julius Peppers will not play for New England in 2009."

I know this tidbit is legit, it just sounds kinda rumor-ish.

Carry on.

If the Panthers would bite, that would be amazing and would actually work out quite well for both sides. Carp would replace Morgan, Ellis would replace Peppers, and Crayton would be a very good compliment to Smith.

The Cowboys would finally dump Carp, Austin, Hurd, and Stanback move up in the depth chart, and we get possibly the top edge-rushing duo in the league.

You guys need to seriously stop having wet dreams over Peppers.

As much as I would love to have Peppers, there is just no way we can afford to pay Peppers and Ware both "top 5" money.
