I actually watched some of his preseason games last year. People are impressed by him for the same reasons he was drafted in the first place. He’s a big athletic strong arm QB. Unfortunately he doesn’t know how to run a NFL offense let alone a college one. He can make throws a lot of guys can’t but he also can’t make throws a lot of guys can. He’s mainly a first read then scramble guy, Throw hard all the time to the outside. No touch with him and some of the best QBs in the league make the most important passes with little velocity
The hype the patriots traded him off of was the bills game which was essentially a preseason game. He’s talented enough to run past and throw over NFL backups in a semi meaningless game, but can you project him to ever do that against a starting eagles defense? That extremely athleticism is nice to fall back on but you need to be able to run an nfl offense and operate within the scheme or you’ll just go three and out or turn the ball over and over against quality nfl defenses.
Lastly I promise you if Milton was even REMOTELY close to Maye in camp, in the qb room, etc, like you state, they would not have traded him and especially not for only a 5th. I’m sure internally they know he’s miles away from Maye and decided to dump the distraction that he would cause by fans enamored with his play. Guess who’s going to have that distraction now?
