Was just wondering if there were any faithful Tampa Bay Lightning fans out there who could give a Flyers fan an idea of how effective Kubina still is at this stage of his career, being 34 now.

Still a guy who can get the job done in his own zone and work the penalty kill well? How physical has he been the past couple years, etc..

Any info would be appriciated. Thanks! :)

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, he's no better in his own end than guys like Coburn. Kubina is good on the PP, but that's about it. The Grossman trade was a much, much better move considering what Philly needs on the back end.

It also puts them over the cap if I'm not mistaken, so expect someone like Carle to be waved or another trade, though I don't think they have any big cap hits that are going to go anywhere

I think they still have like 900,000 under the cap after the move.. i just thought they were looking for a bigger guy with a little attitude to clear out the front of the net more often.

For the size of the players they have on D, including Coburn and Meszaros, none of them seem to be willing to clear guys out from the front of the net, as half of the teams' problem is that there are always guys on the doorstep. The goalies need to play better, especially Bryz for sure, but in the last couple games Bobrovsky has played, most of the goals he's allowed have been plays where guys are standing on the back door post or right in front completely unchecked by our D. Its embarassing. The forwards are to blame as well, its just a complete lack of effort in the team D.

Wish we had Richie back right now..

Guess I was wrong about the cap...but hey, I hate the Flyers so maybe it's wishful thinking :laugh2:

I don't think Kubina is the kind of guy with attitude who clears the front of the net that you're thinking of. He's always been more of a finesse type guy imo. Is he fundamentally better than some of those other D Men, probably, but I don't think he brings the attitude that's going to really help Philly and I really don't understand the trade.

I hope you're wrong for our sake, haha. I just got that from a comment that Jagr made about Kubina, saying he always hated going up against him because the guy always battles and plays dirty kinda, but like in a good way. Like Pronger. Jagr said that's something he thought the Flyers had been missing.

Kubina has a boatload of hits and shot-blocks this year.

It didn't seem like anyone was at all scared of sitting right in front of the whom-ever the Flyers had in goal.

Kubina gets some hits and blocks some shots, but I don't think he really plays with that edge that the Flyers miss with Pronger out. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he's ever been a guy to intimidate anybody.

I think the Flyers are in trouble. Pronger was a bad contract (always signing guys past their prime). Goalie issue still not solved. Not giving up, as we have seen, you just have to get on a roll near the end of the year. I know they have not beaten the Rangers this year nor do I think they have beat Winnipeg (currently playing tonight)

I've got the moves like Jagr.....I've got the moves like Jagr.....

The difference between the Rangers and the Flyers is the goaltending. And that's it.

The Rangers are WAY better in their own zone.

I think the Flyers have more depth as far as offensive talent, but whether it's their scheme or the players, they are not good in their own zone at all. Bryzgalov hasn't been great, but a lot of those goals haven't been his fault.

He's actually allowed alot of soft goals, Bobrovsky has been the better goalie this year.

I've watched every game. They aren't the greatest defensive team you'll ever see, but their goaltending is horrid. Both goalies. Swap goalies with us and we're leading the division by 10 points too.

No way. Let's not forget that Staal still doesn't have his game back and Sauer has been out for over a month.

Martin Biron has won 10 of his 14 starts as well and has a GAA of only 2.17. Henrik is the best goalie in the league right now, but the Rangers defense is also excellent.

The Flyers haven't had injuries? Name the player, he's been out for some stretch of games. Including the captain for the season.

The Flyers have given up over 180 goals this year and they're what, 8 points behind the Rangers?

You put a top flight goaltender on a team that leads the league in goals and yeah, they're the division leaders easily.

Just look at tonight's game. 5-4 overtime win. The Flyers outshoot them 55-26. Granted that might be the extreme but it's a pretty routine thing to see them lose games with a big advantage in shots and chances.

Bryz is a top flight goaltender.. and look how he's doing. Our team defense is absolutely atrocious. I have no idea how its allowed to go on for so long. At any given time there should never be a guy within 5 feet of the net, unchecked.. yet it happens constantly against us. I could count at least 20 instances PER FREAKIN GAME of guys on the doorstep completely unmanned. Its mind boggling.

Im a Flyers fan too. Grossman seems to be the new Chris Therien(eww.) Kubina, is a solid 4th defensman. We have Kimmo and Coburn along with Mezaros, then I think he fills that void there.

We have no GOALTENDING. Illza(sp) is a freaking mess. I would send him to the Phantoms and bring back up Micheal Leighton who is still on the team but in the A. We are going to have to trade one of our young guys like Sean Couturie along with Illa for almost nothing because of Illaz contract.

Why were on the the Flyers topic did Paul Holrom absolutly take the Jackets and Kings to school last summer. Mike Richards for Wayne Simmions(like 24 goals roughly and 100 pims) and Brayden Schenn who scouts said was the best player not in the NHL last year. Then, Jeff Carter for Voreack who is soild and the 8th pick Sean Couturier who was suppose to be the first pick until he got mono. He's 18 and made the Flyers. Carter is hurt as usual and Richards is a decent player but a tad overrated.

If what you say is true we'd be getting out shot every game.

Look at last night's game. 4 goals against. Looks like another bad defensive performance. But on 26 shots with OT. The goaltender gave us another .850 save percentage effort.

I remember when we made that signing one of the hockey guys on ESPN called Bryz one of the most overrated players in the league. I can only agree with that after watching him this year. He clearly can't handle the spotlight in Philadelphia. Some of his comments in the media have been alarming.

So far, so good on those trades. Schenn's finally starting to show something. Couturier's future looks bright. I'm hoping we hold on to those guys and see what they can become.
