He came out and said it was his doing.. don't think it could have been more clear.

I really think Columbus is making out in that deal. Johnson is a good defenseman, and has a lot of upside, and Carter's cap is ridiculous.Risen Star;4427456 said:BTW, Jeff Carter was traded to the Kings tonight. So he reunites with Richards.
Risen Star;4427443 said:What exactly did he say?
I know he was intent on getting a goaltender but was it under the protest of the GM?
RoyTheHammer;4427730 said:Seriously though, after tonight, if you think this is just a goaltender problem and not a teamwide problem.. you're out of your mind.
Just like down the stretch last season, this team is fading. And Richie isn't here to be the scapegoat and the fall guy this year, so who are we going to pin the whole thing on now? I thought the attitude and laziness from this team was all his fault, right Philly media clowns?
Good grief.. Bryz lets in another soft goal tonight, as well. Nice job guys. Keep turning the puck over in your own end and making stupid plays in the neutral zone.
Risen Star;4428128 said:You're cherry picking one game. How many times have we been shutout this year? So why would you pick that game to reflect upon the season? They led the league in goals going into that game.
It's a goaltender problem more than anything else. Their's stood on his head, ours didn't.
RoyTheHammer;4430696 said:If we have to expect our goaltender to stand on his head.. then yes, its a team D problem. If you don't see it, that's all well and good. I see turnovers in our own zone and defensive breakdowns multiple times a game.
Risen Star;4430705 said:I see turnovers in their own zone and breakdowns from every team. If you don't see the Flyers goaltenders routinely giving up soft goals and have to concoct some theory that despite facing less shots than 75% of the goaltenders in the league (probably due to that gem about our defensemen who don't play defense blocking so many shots), then I don't know what to tell you. Could the defense improve? Absolutely. But it's not the critical issue.
Around the entire NHL world it's a known fact that Flyers have serious goaltender issues.
I notice you didn't mention last night's game. But I'm sure you'll give another game review whenever that bum in net can actually put together a decent outing.

I don't know if you just don't understand what you're watching, but i've already said multiple times that Bryz and Bob haven't played well and Bryz especially has allowed alot of soft goals.. but the team D has been awful. Guys on the doorstep completely unchecked, far too many silly turnovers in their own zone, too many odd man rushes for the other team, etc.. Now even the players and coaches are admitting what i've already been seeing. The quote from Lavy sums up best what i've been saying.
"We're not giving up a lot of chances, but good chances - the breakaways, the penalty shots, the two-on-ones," coach Peter Laviolette said.
Risen Star;4434823 said:Gee, you got me there. I was expecting a team to blame their goaltenders. That happens all the time.
Anyway, back in reality over here, yes....they aren't the best defensive team but their goaltending is their biggest weakness. By far. If our team defense was as bad as the goaltending, we'd be seeing 35 plus shots a game and we're not.
That quote is coach speak. Routine share the blame coach speak.
RoyTheHammer;4435091 said:Its got nothing to do with share the blame cliches. He's saying what the problem is. The problem is quality not quantity. It has nothing to do with spreading the blame.. and if you knew Lavy, you know he says whatever he needs to say. He doesn't beat around the bush. He's come out and said the goaltending needs to be better. He's come out and called specific players out before. The players have come out and said the goaltending needs to be better at times. You hear what you want to hear.. its clear to everyone that plays on, coaches, and watches the team that their team D needs to get alot better in front of the goalies.. as the goalies step it up as well. Can't have all the turnovers, the odd man rushes, the point blank shots, the 3 guys in the crease unchecked getting chances on rebounds, etc..
Risen Star;4436123 said:It has everything to do with coach speak. You thought you had a point, you were wrong.

You keep acting like i think the goaltending isn't a big issue when i've already said several times it is. However, that doesn't mean our team D hasn't been atrocious either. The players and coaches know it, its plain to see when you watch the games, and the only one who doesn't see it is you. We give up alot of quality chances, as far as odd man rushes, sloppy turnovers in our own zone, and unchecked players given way too many oppertunities on the doorstep.
Again tonight, we did alot better as far as being active with our sticks on D and stripping guys of the puck and our awareness was better overall in the D zone. However, 2 of the goals allowed were goals Bryz never had a chance on. The second goal they scored was yet another player left alone on the backside doorstep with an unchallanged slam dunk goal, and the third was a play where Schenn ran into Bryz and knocked his stick away allowing the easy goal to the far side of the net that was wide open as a result.
Again, you simply don't know what you're watching. I'll leave it at that.
Good win tonight.

The goalie play has been bad. Stunningly bad considering the resources invested. I still cringe when I think of the 9-8 Jets win.
But the defense hasn't been good either. If it were the Flyers wouldn't have traded for two more defenseman of the same ilk. Big, brusiers who block shots. Even one of the players admitted that they were giving up too many point-blank chances.
Risen Star;4437950 said:They just signed a goaltender to a mega deal. I think they want to do everything possible to make that work. Their only option is to strengthen the defense around him and hope Ilya finds a groove.
Of course players will have their goaltender's back. They're not going to come out and say their shiny new toy has sucked large so far.
