They needed to draft two DL fairly high no matter what transpired in Free Agency.

Stop smoking, you can't make statements like this. If we would have signed Melton, Hatcher, and Peppers, we would not have drafted any defensive lineman

We may have been interested in him. Maybe he was not interested in us. Maybe he wanted to finish his career somwhere he had a chance of winning and competing for a Superbowl. Not happening in Dallas as long as Jones is running the show.

Ppl think im a joke when i say a serious player will not come to Dallas. If they do Dallas over paid for him, he is a scrub or near the end of career and wanted to wear that star before he retires.

Michael, you need to get on board. If the Cowboys don't sign Peppers for 10 million a year you need to cry about how stupid this organization is.

Follow this and no one will question you. Your "likes" will also skyrocket.

Only 7.5 is guaranteed though

Not at the price the Packers paid... no.

Its basically a one year deal for $7.5......................good deal for the pack..............if Peppers sucks, they can cut bait with no cap penalty after this year and if he is anything close to what he was, then that is a good price.

Plus the Pack is like $20 million under the cap, so its not like $7.5 is going to cripple them.

Nope. Not going to cripple them but it's too much for a middling-of-the-road defensive end who doesn't fit their scheme.

I thought that we might could use him on the strongside here because there is no doubt that he lacks the agility big-time to play on the weakside anymore.

He's probably strong enough to hold the edge on the strongside, but unless he can bull-rush the tackle, I don't see him getting much pressure on the QB these days.

I know that I don't work in the NFL and that all the guys in Green Bay are way smarter than me... but how on Earth they're going to get $10M worth of use out of him in a 3-4, I just can't fathom. Maybe he still has enough mobility to get a decent pass rush as a 34 end there, but I'd be surprised if he gets more than about 5 or 6 sacks from that position. As a 34 OLB? Fuhgetaboutit. He'd be eaten alive.

I do think Capers is a good coach though, so maybe he has something in mind that we don't know about.

I think they had to make a big splash even if it meant over paying just to quieten the fans/owners a little bit. It's become painfully obvious that their drafting the last few years is showing up in their inability to stop the run or do anything else when Rogers isn't in.

That AND they were roughly $20m under cap despite Aaron Rodgers being the highest paid player in the NFL and Clay Matthews being the highest paid LB.

Because they do a reasonable job managing the cap they can take a n

Who knows what their plan is. They probably think he somehow Peppers makes a difference and takes pressure off the other 4 high drafts they've got rushing the passer - Matthews (1st rounder), Nick Perry (1st rounder), Mike Neal (2nd rounder), and maybe even get something out of Raji (1st rounder) who basically has taken a two year vacation from rushing the passer.

They were 8th in sacks last year with Raji rushing from DE -- Raji can't rush at all. I suspect the plan is to play Peppers at 3-4 DE and move Raji back to NT.

If I had to bet -- Peppers will make more than $1m per sack this coming season.

I think you are right about them moving Raji back to NT and putting Peppers at DE.

Raji is terrible rushing the passer, he is much better at the nose where he can just be a space eater and occupy blockers. I suspect this is what the Pack is thinking as well.

Like you said, they were still 8th in sacks last year and that was with basically Raji just standing there at DE when the ball was snapped. If Peppers can provide any type of pass rush whatsoever, then its a good move for the Pack.

When you draft almost nobody that is worth a second contract for the last 5 years, you tend to have some money to spend. They ought to spend a little on some scouts.

I didn't want Peppers either, and definitely not at that price. Though there are several guys we didn't get that I did want.

It's a good sign if RS and Alex think you're too positive overall. It means you have at least a little bit of perspective. Anything short of throwing yourself off the same bridge in any thread is frowned upon on their planet, where memories are short term and intentionally inaccurate.

Don't forget neither one is ever wrong either
