So what are the objections to Holt?

Price tag?

Lack of skills?

Fear that he'll hold back the development of younger WRs?

Character / team chemistry concerns? (I haven't heard of any, but maybe others know more)

For me, the problem is the $5 million per year.

I'd love Holt here, he is consistantly one of the best route runners in the league and I'm sure Romo would love to have a guy like that opposite Roy

For the right price I'd be okay with this. A Brooking type deal. Holt has always struck me as a solid locker room presence.

Why? you and I don't have to pay it.As long as they can fit it into the cap then who cares.

1 - they aren't going to do any deals that prevent us from signing Ware

2 - the argument about stunting the young WR's growth is bogus. Bring in talented players and let them all fight for a job. If Miles and Crayton can't beat out Holt then so be it. The two of them can duke it out for 3rd WR.

to those of you who are saying " no " to Holt: don't be too quick to judge just yet.

Rag on T.O. all you want, but don't understimate the loss of production he represents. Remember, The Jerrathor is still shooting for a Superbowl, not just a division banner, and although I'm all for RW becoming the goto guy, and think he will be an excellent receiver, the reality is that other than him, you have Crayton ( very good 3rd/slot receiver, not necessarily a good #2 ), Austin ( potential ), Hurd ( potential ), Stanback ( still has to prove he has potential ) and that's it.

What happens if RW goes down with an injury ?

Holt is an experienced guy who has caught many " key " passes in criticial situations and still has the physical abilities to do what he does best. Now, I will agree that the money needs to be reasonable, but if he's willing to come to Dallas for a cap friendly salary, the Cowboys would be foolish to turn him down. Crayton and Austin will get theirs, so don't worry about that, and, what's more important, instead of relying on them as starters, they would even be more valuable as reserves.

Well, he is younger than the guy we just released. But not better.

That is debatable. Holt has better hands, runs better routes, and is a team player. He is not a good red-zone target, may have lost a step, and is a finesse receiver.

Owens is stronger, better top end speed, and a beast in the redzone. However he drops passes, cant beat press coverage, and whines too much.

I'd love to bring Holt in for a decent price. Him or Galloway

:clap2: Let the young WR's duke it out! :fight:

Holt can still play. He has had a horrid offense/qb situation the last couple of years. I would take him in a second, even at 5 mil per...

I would be happy about that but since when do welet the cat out of the bag on term and money so quickly? It soundslike is camp is putting out what he's looking to get paid. I think 2 years almost 5 million each isn't bad. It's not like Patrcik Crayton isn't almost making that much.

Holt's got character and is still talented. Don't forget, he has won a Superbowl and is used to combining his efforts with another first rate WR (Isaac Bruce) and dynamic running game (Marshall Faulk, Steven Jackson). The guy had (8) 1,000 yard seasons in a row prior to this season mostly being in that offensive environment. I think Felix has a lot of Marshall Faulk in him. Of course Marshall was able to get about 15-20 carries a game but catch the ball 5-10 times again as well. Don't think Felix will get that much work but his skill set is similar.

Torry Holt would be a good signing around that term and value. $4 million a year would be excellent value for a proven durable vertical threat who doesn't have the me first attitude. That's a guy who will get you about 7 TD's a season and 900 to 1,100 yards in this offense. Roy can do 10 TD's 1,000 to 1,300 yards if he's on his game for the whole season. We add in Witten's production which will be similar to Holt's throughout the intermediate parts of the field and there you go. Crayton and Austin will be competing for that 3rd and 4th spot. Hurd and Standback can compete for a job this camp as they should.

I'd like to package a Crayton and Hurd or Stanback combo before draft day if we get Holt. Get some more secondary help or a good young pressure player on the outside for depth by leveraging them. Torry Holt could Help Roy attitude wise and route running wise also.

Not sure Holt is an answer, but the way, Cowboys get WR's injured we may need 4 or 5 more to get through TC, and then let the chips fall where they may.

I don't think Austin will ever make more than 12 games in a season. He seems to be injured a lot too. Don't get me wrong, I love his skills.

Exactly, over the course of a season he'd break down, especially in a number 2 role where he'd have to be more active. The guy's got potential but I have my doubts him being able to get 3-5 catches a game for 16 games a season.

These guys say he's never had the opportunity but he still gets hurt with limited action. It's like Hatcher at DE, lots of talent and potential but good luck getting him to start 16 games a season. He gets hurt with the workload he already has. Spencer I think just had some bad luck but if the same happens this season you have to put him in that category as well.

That's why reliable, older cry baby vets like Ellis have important roles on football teams. You know they can hack out a season and give you some production.

Not for 5 mil a year....
He'd be a good addition, both Roy and Austin would benefit a lot. Holt's routes are some of the best in the NFL, and both Austin and Roy need help in that department. Besides, he's a class act.

I'm for it, but we can't overpay either.

No doubt.......Rams just couldn't get hiim the ball because their OL couldn't pass protect. He's got at least 2 years left.

Thanks for the message. Him or Marvin, doesn't matter, but we need another WR, imo.

Holt wouldnt be a terrible add, but Harrison would be an awful signing.

I knew Jerry was looking at him as soon as TO was released. The timing was too perfect. Holt asks for his release and TO is released later that day or the next day.

I still like Holt but not for 5 mil.

And no thanks on Harrison his knees are shot (no pun intended).

I doubt Holt gets 5mil a yr from anybody, especially us. Although it does appear there will be a number of teams interested, including teams like the Eagles, Ravens and Titans among others. Not sure what his contract is, but unless he has a really out of whack deal you'd think somebody that really wants him would trade a late rd pick for him to avoid a bidding war.

Agreed. Aikman falls all over himself with how good a route runner Holt is and what a benefit he is to the Rams. Would be a good fit here in Dallas.

I'd take him for a 3 yr contract at vet min with a 6 mil.. Signing bonus.. He gets his money upfront.. If he works out it can be renegotiated.. If not cut him loose after a year... He runs the best routes in the league.. After TO the young guys might need someone like him... If a good receiver falls to 51, I bet Austin, Hurd or Stanback won't be on the roster anyway..
