For me, the problem is the $5 million per year.
Why? Do you have to come up with part of the 5 mil ? If Jerry wants Holt, and 5 mil is market value, then 5 mil it is. We need depth at receiver.

Agreed. Aikman falls all over himself with how good a route runner Holt is and what a benefit he is to the Rams. Would be a good fit here in Dallas.
Completely agree. Holt would be good in Dallas -- helping out the younger receivers and bringing depth.

Not for 5 mil a year....
He'd be a good addition, both Roy and Austin would benefit a lot. Holt's routes are some of the best in the NFL, and both Austin and Roy need help in that department. Besides, he's a class act.

I'm for it, but we can't overpay either.
The concern about Jerrys money is quite entertaining.

I've actually been looking forward to seeing if Austin can flourish as a starter. But if we could get Holt for a few years and if Holt has the right mindset, then I would be excited to get him.

Jerry would love to offset some of the worries of losing T.O.'s production by bringing in Holt I'm sure. I wouldn't be shocked if he was secretly talking to the Rams and Holt's agent to see if a contract could be worked out prior to any trade. Knowing Jerry, he would probably end up giving up a much higher draft pick then we think he should though. A seventh was mentioned, so Jerry would probably end up giving up a fourth or fifth rounder. Silly Jerry.

What are his numbers on MADDEN???
Naw...just joking, but seriously, I totally agree with MWILL's post if the money was right.
"the argument about stunting the young WR's growth is bogus. Bring in talented players and let them all fight for a job. If Miles and Crayton can't beat out Holt then so be it. The two of them can duke it out for 3rd WR"

It would be a win win for all. Another threat, that can run routes, GET OPEN, and can teach our yonger guys in a positve way.
Get er done Jerrah!!!

We're a very young team as is. Kitna, Ellis, Adams and Brooking stand out as the only guys who are really up there. That's it. Who am I missing?

The concern is about eating up cap space that could be used to fill other needs not about if Jerry can pay him.

IMO if Jerry signs Holt it's time to release Ellis. The cap space would probably even out.

"Sounds like Holt's agent talking up his price."

I agree Arch, sounds like agent speak to me. He's worth half that: but then as they say: you're worth what someone will pay you I guess. But Indy and Philly are usually cheap anyway.....I wouldn't overpay for the guy personally. His best fit is INdy IMO. He's a poor man's Marvin Harrison.

Speculated once he is released we would be willing to take him on for 2-3 years around $5 mil per.

Just the messenger...

Brady Tinker "speculates" quite a bit. Anyone wonder why a 2nd rate local on-camera talent (not even a working Sports Journalist) would have a confirmed Valley Ranch source citing interest in any Free Agent?

I don't think so.

He is only one year removed from 8 consecutive 1000+ yard seasons. I would say he can still play. As far this last year, it was the Rams, dude!

people here don't see things that way. they see he is 32 and can't play. Well besides maybe Roy he IS better than any Wr on this roster and I would welcome him to Dallas anytime, Hell I would even fly from VA to pick him up from the airport.;)

Yeah some around here believe that as soon as a player hits 30 he loses all of his ability. :laugh2:

I'm neutral to this. I wouldn't be upset if we picked him up, at the right price of course, and I won't be upset if we don't. I like Holt. Great hands, good/great route runner, seems to be a pretty good dude for the most part, and most of his time in St. Louis. I would worry about how much this will effect rather we eventually sign Austin long term but, as I said, I wouldn't be too upset either way.

One of the best set of hands in the league...still. His routes are always sharp and RARELY makes a mental flub. Never causes a stink and just goes out and does his job. He still has a GOOD 3 or 4 years left...maybe more, but obviously not for 5 xlarge per year. If released, he will not be out of work long. Still a very good WR. Hope we can land him for something financially palatable.

I say this because everyone seems SO high on Austin and I can't see it. He's still a crap shoot in my book. Super fast, but anybody's guess if he'll catch the ball and his routes SUCK...I wouldn't bank on him personally.

And if we can get him in here soon he will get the Dallas motivation that some free agents seem to get when they come here.

Im a Holt fan but personally I would try and sign Joey Galloway and give Austin every opportunity to play.

Not necessarily. Jones isn't trying to make a youth movement especially with all the money he has shelled out. He wants to win NOW! And a good mixture of youth and vets is the best way to do this.

Am I a big proponent for signing Holt... no. Do I think he would help... definitely. I just hope if its true, he would be signed for cheaper than the 5 million per year number.
