Snyder did interview a minority (a member of Zorn's staff). I know it wasn't a serious interview, but it did satisfy the rule. Personally, I can't figure out why any coach would consider coaching in Washington or Oakland.
That's why that rule is more a slap in the face IMO

As long as they don't find an Elway and Davis, they're not gonna do squat...as usual.

I agree, the only success Shanahan ever had was with Elway as his QB, he sucked before and after, so I'm not worried.

I would have gone after Cowher. IMO, Bill Cowher is a much better coach than Shanahan.

I would have to disagree with you, if I'm correct they interviewed Gray while Zorn was still the coach. Therefore, the coaching position was not available. I hate the rule anyway, hire who you want and get it over alright.......
They checked with the commissioner and he told them they satisfied the rule (this was communicated to Snyder and the media before Zorn was even fired). I wonder if the commissioner got a call from Tagliapuke.

Shannahan will get eaten alive in the NFC east.

No seriously, Wade and Andy will eat him with cupcakes and pickle juice.

Oh, ok but I still don't think that satisfied the ruling. IMO

More false hope for Washington trying a retread coach living off past glory, so i guess he and Washington do have alot in common afterall.

Norv Turner gets a bad name there, Marty Shottenheimer gets unceremoniously dismissed for turning an 0-5 team into an 8-8 finisher, Steve Spurrior ruins his credibility, Joe Gibbs tarnishes his legacy with a second lackluster tour, Jim Zorn becomes the why the hell not candidate, and now Mike Shanahan comes in a year after being fired in Denver for posting mediocrity for the decade.

Six coaches in 10 years, no wonder they stink.

Another year, another new coach. Have fun with the rebuild, Mike. Your deadskins will continue to be irrelevant in this division until you find an new o-line, qb and runningback. Maybe they might be a competitor in 8 years? Doubtful. Totally not worried.

Shanahan has final say in Washington

Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2010 8:54 PM ET

When Bruce Allen became the new General Manager of the Washington Commanders, owner Daniel Snyder proclaimed that Allen "has the authority."

"When we, when he, when the club makes a decision, it's a Commanders decision," Snyder said.

Folks who had been tracking the Shanahan rumors knew better.

Less than three weeks later, there's a new sheriff in town, and coach Mike Shanahan has the authority that Allen possessed on a short-term basis, like a library book.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that, in addition to coaching the team, Shanahan will serve as executive Vice President of football operations. That's the same title Vinny Cerrato most recently held.

Schefter also reports that Shanahan, not Allen, now has the "ultimate authority" over football decisions.

And so the clumsily-kept secret is now out in the open. By all appearances, Shanahan and Allen were a package deal, with Allen coming through the door first and pretending to be in charge until Shanahan was hired.

Meanwhile, the Commanders interviewed no one else after the firing of Jim Zorn, turning the Rooney Rule upside down and creating a horrible precedent for its application in the future.

But, hey, the Commanders got the guy they coveted. The guy whose Broncos went 8-8 in 2008, just like the Commanders did. The guy whose Broncos went 7-9 in 2007, two games worse than the Commanders.

The guy who has won only one playoff game in the eleven years since winning a second straight Super Bowl with a team built largely by someone else, and held together in part by proven salary-cap violations for which the Broncos were fined nearly $2 million and stripped of two third-round draft picks.

So now that the Commanders got the guy they coveted, can someone explain to us why in the hell they coveted him?

Not for nothing but that could be turned around as well...Elway never won the big one without Shanny or Davis either....Parcells is thought of as a God but did he win anything without Belicheat? he won 2 SBs but one was gifted by Scott norwood...he would have been a 1 SB winner and not a legend...he would have been Billick. LOL

I can think of millions of reasons.

I think Parcells legend is more about his ability to turn teams around.
Shanny doesn't share that with Parcells.

Absolutely no doubt Kyle will be hired as OC in the next few days and it's almost a guarantee Mike finangels the 1st round to get the QB of his choice. Also depending on what happens with the CBA you can be sure to see Shanny favorites Tony Scheffler and Elvis Dummervil at least in for a visit.

OFFSEASON CHAMPIONS!

It's going to be a least 3 seasons before their sniffing the playoffs, they have alot of work to do with that offense.
