I just wonder why someone would make a coach who hasnt won a championship in 12 years the highest paid coach in football, and was fired because his last team went his last 3 years without even making the playoffs.

Shannahan will get eaten alive in the NFC east.

No seriously, Wade and Andy will eat him with cupcakes and pickle juice.

I'm not surpised. Danny overpays again and doesn't follow the minority rules. I guess when you have money you don't have to follow the rules......

Why do they even have that stupid rule? If I am an owner and I want SO-AND-SO who happens to be white, will it even make a difference if I interview a black man?

Also, why don't they have a clause that forces owners to interview Asians and Hispanics as well. Honestly, that right there is racism to only force preferential treatment towards blacks and none of the other minority groups.

He's just like all the free agents they have signed. There for the money, not to win and thats why it won't work. Why else would you compromise yourself and go work for Snyder? I have no doubt he will improve the team because quite frankly they have nowhere else to go but up but I see him being gone in 3-4 years after Snyder wants some control back.

Shanahan has final say in Washington

Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2010 8:54 PM ET

When Bruce Allen became the new General Manager of the Washington Commanders, owner Daniel Snyder proclaimed that Allen "has the authority."

"When we, when he, when the club makes a decision, it's a Commanders decision," Snyder said.

Folks who had been tracking the Shanahan rumors knew better.

Less than three weeks later, there's a new sheriff in town, and coach Mike Shanahan has the authority that Allen possessed on a short-term basis, like a library book.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that, in addition to coaching the team, Shanahan will serve as executive Vice President of football operations. That's the same title Vinny Cerrato most recently held.

Schefter also reports that Shanahan, not Allen, now has the "ultimate authority" over football decisions.

And so the clumsily-kept secret is now out in the open. By all appearances, Shanahan and Allen were a package deal, with Allen coming through the door first and pretending to be in charge until Shanahan was hired.

Meanwhile, the Commanders interviewed no one else after the firing of Jim Zorn, turning the Rooney Rule upside down and creating a horrible precedent for its application in the future.

But, hey, the Commanders got the guy they coveted. The guy whose Broncos went 8-8 in 2008, just like the Commanders did. The guy whose Broncos went 7-9 in 2007, two games worse than the Commanders.

The guy who has won only one playoff game in the eleven years since winning a second straight Super Bowl with a team built largely by someone else, and held together in part by proven salary-cap violations for which the Broncos were fined nearly $2 million and stripped of two third-round draft picks.

So now that the Commanders got the guy they coveted, can someone explain to us why in the hell they coveted him?

well we've just gotten proof with this article that they are doomed to fail.

if anything was true from Denver it's that Shanny was AWFUL in this type of role. he only had success when he was just a coach (and when he had TD).

oh well. pick #4 in the upcoming draft will probably end up being Clausen or Bradford, so at least we'll have a sorry excuse for a rookie QB to sick Ware and Spencer after (assuming they are being carted off by the cheapshot cut-blocks coming from behind at their knees.

-They got fired up when they got Spurrier...we saw what happened.
-They were in LaLa land when Gibbs came back...we saw how that movie
ended.
-They thought they had it all with Schottenheimer....they didn't.
-They went from A to Z on their quest for a coach...they got Zorn.
-Now they think they'll matter again because of Shanahan...but they still got Snyder.

They have made King Kong 3 times...it still ends that same way.
As long as Dan Snyder is the director, the movie will always end the same.

I'm as concerned about their getting Zimmer as anything. Shanahan's one problem is that he's absolutely clueless on defense. If he has a good assistant there, they might be really good.

And with a high draft pick, they can draft a good QB. I hope they don't get Bradford, but they probably can.

Not to mention when they bragged about getting the best offensive and defensive coordinators in football. What ever happened there? I forgot.

I'll be back in 3 years. The Commanders have a very long way to go to become relevant again. I am not predicting a Superbowl, or division championship even. Just a competitive professional football team by the 2012 season

(of course, I will reply to responses to this post. But after today, there is no point in being back until the 2012 season)

Who said you had to leave?

You're a member...albeit of an opposing team, but you're not a troll or anything.

Not much of a point to be honest :). There is quite a bit of work to be done in DC that worrying about what the Cowboy fan base thinks of the Commanders will be irrelevant

Another miserable record in 2010 with some progress noted, but still 6-10 at best.

2011, maybe 8-8 to 9-7. 2012, hopefully playoffs

Absolutely no doubt Kyle will be hired as OC in the next few days and it's almost a guarantee Mike finangels the 1st round to get the QB of his choice. Also depending on what happens with the CBA you can be sure to see Shanny favorites Tony Scheffler and Elvis Dummervil at least in for a visit.

OFFSEASON CHAMPIONS!
That's a lateral move so he would have to become assistant head coach with the Commanders or else they owe the Texans compensation.
