There are rules... like you cannot renegotiate a rookie deal until after year 3. That's in the CBA.
But shouldn't it make you wonder why the owners allowed that ability to renegotiate after year 3?

Probably a trade-off for something the NFLPA gave up

I thought it'd get done today.

Well, the Jones twins are in NYC working on a business deal apparently. I’m sure In this day and age that doesn’t preclude them talking and getting it done.

I’m sure most FO work this way. ;)

I would have pulled the offer last week and show Zeke who really has the leverage on a guy that holds out with two years left on his contract. He could honor his contract or sit out. It wouldn’t have mattered to me.

Well it matters to Jerry. And Zeke did it HIS way which is the best part about all this.

Makes you wonder why Zeke and his agent would head to the Star then if Frick and Frack weren't even there.
Hope it gets done tomorrow, bet my dad weeks ago it would be the Wednesday before the start of the season. I think a deal is in place-they are just going to announce it tomorrow morning. Jerry wants the Stephen A's and Skip Bayless' of the world talking about it during their morning shows.

6 years, 90 million is crazyyyyyyyyyy. Guess, say bye to Cooper.
Right now the team has 85 mil in cap space next year.

At worst they’d add

Zeke - 15
Dak - 35
Coop - 18

And probably with bonuses and such cap #s won’t be even that.

They’d still have minimum 17 after those 3 and the cap usually goes up 10 per year.

Byron is the one I don’t see them keeping. Unless he becomes the best CB in the league.

Probably also cut Crawford next year to save $.

Correct. That also doesn’t include any restructures. The option of restructuring the guys who just signed long term will also be there.

That would be too bad because Jerry has done a piss poor job at GM’ing for over two decades and this would be one of his last biggest blunders. Very fitting I suppose, Jerry may go to his grave having been responsible for one of the Cowboys most recent worse contracts in team history.
Dude, $40 million over 6 year is actually very doable with our cap...…….even with this contract, we still are going to have around $60 million in cap space for next season. This is not going to cripple us in any way shape or form.

And the guaranteed money is all that really matters, the rest is just fluff to make the contract appear larger than it really is.

This all goes back to the 2016 draft. You don't draft a RB at 4 unless you are going to pay him. We did and now he is going to get paid. Not sure why anyone hasn't seen this coming for the last 3 years. If Goodell didn't have it out for the Cowboys Zeke would have 3 straight rushing titles.

Exactly...……..you draft a guy at 4 and he goes All-pro on you, there is no question you pay him.

Now should you be drafting RBs in the top 4?

I was going to add to my original comment...let’s wait and see what the deal is, right now it’s all speculation.
