Very old, very washed up, probably would be nothing more than a warm body to take up hits, and space, until Austin was healthy again and then he'd be thrown back out like yesterdays garbage.

And so it begins on a desolute Tuesday in August. An innocent Cowboys fan expects a rather mundane day.

POW!

Right upside the melon with a Joe Horn to Dallas solution.

I need a bandaid.

I dont think we go after him or Glenn till after week 1 so Jerruh doesnt have to guarantee a salary.

For this reason, I think Horn winds up in Philthy

Glenn may still be an option. If signed (after week 1) he stays till Austin returns from injury and produces

Even then, Glenn maybe kept for the season

If a talent starved team like ATL cuts someone before the third preseason game, that player wouldn't make our final 53 regardless of the position he plays.
He and his agent had been begging for a release or trade since the start of the season, it wasn't that he couldn't make the roster. They probably shopped him and couldn't find any suitors

Sportscenter just said Joe Horn was released. Details coming up later. I don't have a link or anything.

What do you guys think?

As the Chinese say: With adversity comes opportunity!

Our adversity is Miles' injury. Our opportunity is a chance to give Stanback and Hurd lots more snaps!

Why take an old, castoff like Horn when we can take longer looks at our young'uns???

He won't have enough time to learn the playbook enough to be effective before Austin returns. Hurd was effective in the role and I don't expect it to change. Stanback has been looking good for his first true year. And Austin will be back a week or two into the season.. hopefully at this same level of play (knock on wood).

If you do decide to role dice, then wait until after the season starts so you aren't married to a contract for an entire season.

I think Joe Horn provides us some security. If we are interested in picking him up, the faster the better so that we can get him to learn the offense as quickly as possible. I think that with us he should be after Austin and Hurd, and with Austin hurt, the Cowboys would work him in the final 2 preseason games and see what he can or might provide. Restructure his contract if possible and get him into camp.

I do think that Horn is not what he used to be, but a veteren WR to backup T.O., Crayton, Austin & Hurd or even move up and get in many 4 WR sets. Also there in case of any little tweeks or injuries (like Austin's).

We want to win the Super Bowl THIS YEAR :)

FALCONS RELEASE JOE HORN

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 19, 2008, 1:19 p.m.
Joe Horn got his wish: He’s no longer an Atlanta Falcon.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Falcons have given Horn his unconditional release, meaning he’s now an unrestricted free agent and able to sign with any team.
Per Schefter, the Falcons paid Horn the $2.5 million that was guaranteed in his contract, which may explain why Horn gave an interview on ESPN shortly after his release in which he had nothing but good things to say about the franchise.
The 36-year-old Horn started 12 games for the Falcons last season, catching 27 passes for 243 yards and one touchdown.

Jerreh said that it's only going to be 5 receivers with Austin going to be inactive initially.

So who you gonna cut for a 36 YO Joe Horn?

And be prepared to defend your decision.

LOL!

Well, you know as well as I do that everyone screams, "Sign this guy!" but no one backs up that statement with the equally necessary, "I would release so & so to make room for this guy."

If we take him we are in more dire straits at WR then I thought.

you already used "dire" in another WR thread. I propose a moratorium on the use of the word "dire." These are dire times and call for dire measures.
