180 days in jail! what a lucky guy...

he will be back for camp! BOOM! there goes 1 hole

Lucky is an understatement, Pretty sure Jerry Brown's family made a huge impact on Brents verdict. Hopefully Josh Brent can make this right for him and Brown's family and turn his life around for the better.

No. He got a suspended ten year sentence and probation. You have to serve a minimim of 180 days to get probabtion in Texas. in other words, if he violates his probation, he goes to prison for ten years.

What I'm seeing is 6 months in jail, ten years probation and a $10,000 fine. That sounds about right IMO.

Edit - I'm sure there will be restitution to Brown's daughter as part of this, its probably just not in the verdict ruling. If not, you have to think the Cowboys would put it into his contract if he ever resigns with the team.

Along with the probation, that's actually a good outcome for everybody involved. I'm sure there'll be a separate civil agreement re: the restitution. But this allows him to potentially continue his career, to compensate the family, to address his obvious dependency problem, and provides an appropriate but significant deterrent to back sliding that can be measured and enforced. I have to say, I have my doubts he'll be able to turn it around, but I really hope for the sake of everybody involved that he does.

Judging by his past, I'd be shocked if he didn't violate his probation. Hopefully this will get his attention and turn his life around for the better.

Brent gets 180 days in jail. Brent family members hugging in court.
Brent's 180 days in jail are mandatory when you get probation in the state of Texas.
Judge Robert Burns rips Brent for not being first Cowboys player to get popped for DWI.

Just FYI, a ten year suspended sentence is no cakewalk. Most people underestimate just how incredibly restrictive the terms of probation can be

How'd he manage to only get 180 days?

Since he has already served some time in jail, probably all of his days previously served will count as
time served so he probably has less than 180 days to serve now. He will probably be ready for training camp
except that the NFL might extend his suspension for another year.
