You may have noticed that Brent has not played a down since this incident occurred.

Marshawn Lynch got a DUI before the 2012 season. He has never missed a game.

Aldon Smith got a DUI during this past season. The 49ers never suspended him. He did miss games while he put himself in rehab, but he came back and played this season.

What part of MANSLAUGHTER is missing from those two incidents?

Manslaughter was missing from Josh Brent until yesterday when he was convicted. People are still innocent until proven guilty in this country, even if people on a web want to kick idiots to the curb.

So on business decisions, you want to resign Dez Bryant. You make him an offer and Dez replies "Are you kidding? Josh Brent was a friend of mine and you gave him no support whatsoever, called him names and pushed him out the door the first chance you got. Why should should I sign here when the Commanders are telling they will have my back no matter what?"

Was "kicking an idiot to the curb" a good business decision?

Still a good move. If you're held hostage by a player, your weak. If you bend to that, you're without character. It's for the individual to decide their own course.

Any business organization HAS to have a set of core values and stick by them. You only bow to your scenario if you want another Brent in your organization. Besides, your hypothetical Dez is likely ruled by the same devil as your hypothetical decision maker: $$$. Loyalty fizzles when it's payday.

Kicking him off the team would have been a stupid business decision.
The only two other active players I can recall being convicted of a similar offense both played again.

The Cowboys were very smart to maintain their rights to a young, cheap, rare player even if they never plan to suit him back up.

You may disagree with it on a moral basis but not as a business decision.

Mine is not based on a moral decision at all. The team retained his rights...very different than having him on the roster. HIs rights are only a legal straw...nothing else.

You act like he's a Ray Lewis or something. The guy was a project at worst, a role player at best. Calling his departure a stupid business decision is REALLY stupid. You're clouded by fandom rather than objectivity.

Wow. The whole thing is a tragedy and one with legal consequences that Josh Brent will find out the exact verdict on in a couple of days. What you are calling "held hostage" is what most people would call basic human decency. Brent killed his best friend and has to deal with that emotionally for the rest of his life, long after he pays the pay the criminal penalty for what he has done.

I sincerely hope no one on this web site ever has to make the same choices toward about a family member dealing with something like this. I know I wouldn't kick the family member to the curb, but that's just me.

I find it astounding that you are essentially equating Brent as a victim in this. Regardless of what you or I think about the event in question, it isn't about Brent. The focus is on what he did and the people that suffered as a result. A person lost his life. A mother lost her son. The same team that we root for lost a player, albeit a PS player. What about those people? Brent dealing with guilt is what he DESERVES, it's what he embraced by his actions. What do you suggest be done with Brent? And what, pray tell, do you call "kicking to the curb"? He lost a job as a result. Other than that, he has to deal with the criminal penalties of his actions...HIS actions (emphasis added). I'm not understanding where you're coming from, but to each his own opinion.

Its stupid to say my posts claim Brent is a victim. And the posts on “kicking him to the curb” are only one page back in this thread, feel free to read them.

#joshbrent jury being charged now before deliberating, terms are 2-20 unless jury decides brent is eligible for community supervision
#joshBrent comm. supervision includes financial restitution to Jerry Brown Jr.'s family and fines. Must serve 1/2 of any prison sentence

#Joshbrent state is giving closing argument in sentencing, Ada says probation not and option because it doesn't work for Josh Brent.
#JoshBrent Ada Dodds: "what we know is that reality check of jail time, and probation doesn't work for Josh Brent".
#JoshBrent Dodds:2009 was the eerily the same, drinking at the club, driving fast, on his way home....defense now up kevin Brooks speaking.

Then what is this?: Brent killed his best friend and has to deal with that emotionally for the rest of his life

Quite obviously is for Brent and his emotions/psyche and the lack of "support" for him, no?

Who really cares about what Brent feels?

This is only a tragedy for one side of the equation.

For Brent this is the result of a long pattern of stupid, selfish, and self-destructive behavior.

That's precisely my point. (the bold was a quote of Kaiser...not mine).

How do you get victimhood out of that? Brent is paying a price for his actions, a price with costs that are criminal, civil and emotional.

The NFL is a team sport. Its not all about money or free agency would be done on eBay. Its also about going to war with teammates you have a very tight bond with and doing it knowing you could be badly injured on each and every play. In the wake of a tragedy with no winners and only losers, Brent's friends/teammates are supporting him the way they hope he would support them if they made the biggest mistake of their lives.

What the Cowboys have done is support Brown's family and reinforce the bond teammates have by giving Brent basic support like helping him get a lawyer, the normal NFL counseling programs, etc.

What several posters here would have done is "wash their hands of Brent" and "kick an untrustworthy idiot to the curb" as we have seen in several posts here. The people who actually look the players in the eye, ask them to sign contract extensions and know that there is a bond between teammates obviously don't agree.

The DA should look up recidivism rates of jail time and treatment. It should be for the betterment of society and not punitive nonsense.

What I'm seeing is 6 months in jail, ten years probation and a $10,000 fine. That sounds about right IMO.

Edit - I'm sure there will be restitution to Brown's daughter as part of this, its probably just not in the verdict ruling. If not, you have to think the Cowboys would put it into his contract if he ever resigns with the team.
