You don't have to pay them
You can give a premium draft pick to rent a guy for one year
You could probably make 20 trades like that tomorrow
Most any team would love to trade off a guy in the last year of their contract for a premium pick
The reason teams don't make those trades is you then lose that player after one year and miss out on the years of a rookie deal the draft pick got
That's why guys in the last year of a contract bring much lower picks because of the contract you have to give them

Because he is still on his rookie deal is what him so enticing. He is only getting 900k this year but needs to perform to get paid by someone next year. I would not invest that much in a WR2 and would let him sign somewhere else.

Then Dallas would recover the draft pick with a comp pick in 2017, probably a 3rd. But he provides great Dez insurance and a nice second option if he comes back strong.

Given Mr. Blue Suit's accuracy rate (hey, Witten wasn't going to play against the Falcons! Remember?) I translate this as the Cowboys have absolutely talked to the Bears about trading for Forte and/or Jeffery.

I give a third for Jeffrey, today.

I doubt they would take a 3rd for alshon. Every team in the NFL would give up a 3rd rd pck for Alshon.

Now if its just for a rental and no assurance that he will resign then i would pass.

We don't have a pass play over 10 yards in Weedan's Playbook. What good is Jefferies?
