I guess I can't really disagree with you.

Still, I truly believe we are getting the best NC matchup this year.

We need a BCS final four.

I think both OU and Florida are deserving I'm not going argue that I think others are just as deserving to compete for the title but without a playoff system these debates will continue. It could be the top 4 as you suggested (maybe right after the Bowl games to determine the top 4 based on bowl results) or a playoff system using the bowl games with the top 10 teams in the nation. I just know there has to be a better way and a way that allows teams to control their own destiny instead of having these types of debates almost yearly.

I'll be around next year as well and if Texas either beats OU or goes to the Championship, I for one will be here to congratulate the better team. I realize that can't happen with some of you Horns fans but that won't stop me from conceding to your right to play above OU if that indeed happens.

Let's hope that never happens though! :D

I wouldn't mind it at all if they said the winner of tomorrow night's game was playing USC for a +1.

UT doesn't deserve a shot after their average display against the Big 10 runner up.

Either way, as I said earlier, whoever wins tomorrow night deserves the respect of every college football fan as the 2008 National Champions.

I told you somewhere in one of my posts that I doubt we'll ever see a team get in the NC after getting blown out in their CCG like OU did in '03. Yes, USC deserved to be in that game.

The badass argument is not all that bad. From start to finish, the teams who have the best wins, and the least of the ugly losses get a shot. I don't know why you would bring up your 1 loss argument. I doubt we'll be seeing any NC games with two, or even one undefeated team nearly as often as we used to.

Now, to meet you half way, Catch. I have looked back on the past title games of this decade and I somewhat concede to the playoff idea. Ohio State got to the NC game TWICE due to a horrible conference. They were there by default last season.

However, this year I truly believe the BCS got it right. After going over OU's schedule, wins, and losses, and UF's, I have come to the conclusion that with the quality wins, statement games, and least ugly losses, they both deserve to be there. Texas actually has a better case than UF, but not OU. I'm sorry, but the head to head thing doesn't hold water because OU beat more quality teams and their loss was not near as bad as UT's. Also, a 3-way system that MACK BROWN voted for included Texas Tech. You vote for the rules, you live by them. Funny thing is, they'll probably change it next year, and OU will end up getting the better of it and getting a head to head nod. I'll enjoy seeing the tears flow down here over that one.

If we have a playoff, SCRAP conference title games. Don't put a 4 loss ACC champion in there. I don't think it should be any higher than a BCS final 4 to be honest with you. An 8 team playoff would have teams involved that have no business being in there, while others get left out. Can you imagine a 4 loss ACC champion ranked let's say, 14, getting in there over a team with 1 loss that didn't win their conference but is ranked in the top 10?

As for teams like Utah, all I can say is schedule two powerhouses in your non con schedule and hope for the best. Either that or get out of that conference. You can't cry about something when all you do is beat bush league teams. I understand they beat Alabama. Maybe if they would've scheduled someone like that in the non con, they could've proved it then and not in the Sugar Bowl.

Bottom line for me is, this year the BCS got it right. Maybe not every year, but this year they did. I'm all for a small playoff so ppl will quit crying and everyone can be happy.

All I know is people really need to put aside their bias toward certain teams, and set aside their opinion of the playoff, and respect the NC game we have coming up tomorrow night. The two best teams in the nation are playing for all the marbles. Take off the head to head glasses and look at wins over ranked opponents. There's more to a season that just one game, unless that game is the NC game of course.

Why was the Texas loss worse then the OU loss?

The problem here is that the rules state that whomever is ranked higher in the BCS gets the node on the Big 12 championship bid. Now, as I stated in another thread, the poll results after OU's win over Tech still had Texas ahead of OU in the BCS polls. The computers had them deadlocked. The writers were split. The coaches poll ranked OU over Texas in the voting. That's what I don't understand. No coach would make that vote if it were his team in that position.

It's a bad rule that no other conference has in place. Sucks that Texas got the short end of that stick. Hopefully it will get changed next year.

This is rediculous IMO. USC did not play this Ohio State team earlier in the year. OU or Florida has not either. I will tell you that if OU played Ohio State, OU wouldn't put up 60 on them. That OSU team is one of the very best in the country at defending the pass. They are also a very strong running team, which OU does not defend well at all IMO. They would run on OU and they would keep the OU offense of the field. I don't know if they would beat OU or not but that's why you play the games. You can't say that this team or that team doesn't deserve a chance because they didn't win by enough points. You win and move on. That's how it works. In the NCAA tournamant every year, the National Champs always get tested. Doesn't mean that because they play a close game, they shouldn't be allowed to play on. I don't agree with this. Every team matches up differently.

Catch here thinking he understands football and everything involved in it. :laugh2:

Like most average fans? Do you even for a second understand anything you ever post? WTH does "like most average fans" mean anyway? You have all of this scientfic information about the average fan, or are you just throwing crap up into the air in hopes that it sticks? Im thinking the later.

I'm just and average fan but I think I know one thing. I know that if you have two teams, both with identical records, the team that wins the head to head is the better team.

Now, that's just an average view point. I understand this.

:D

Good luck on Thursday.

Please choke on it and tell Greys I said hi. :)

P.S. She just called and said to tell ABQ that

"Texas beat Oklahoma 45-35 and still will not play for the 2008 National Tittle. You tell ABQ to put the big boys pants on now, it's time to get over it."

Her words...not mine.

Why should we? Evidently winning does not mean anything. We won and we beat OU so evidently winning does not prove who is the best I guess we should not even play the game and let the pollsters just crown who ever they feel like. If you think Texas is not worthy then OU sure as hell is not worth. Personally I think USC,Florida,Texas,OU and Utah are all worthy of playing in the National title

Thats basically what they do anyways.

For such an important regular season you would think the head to head match ups matter enough to not rank a team 1 spot better than the team that beat them.

It was not easy watching the Big 12 Championship knowing Texas beat the 2 teams who played in the game. However I blame Texas for not closing the deal on TT. I will say to guys like Hank who thinks Texas does not deserve it that Texas deserves it just as much as the team we beat named OU

I have a hard time blaming anyone on this one. I mean, as much as I hate seeing OU playing for the NC, I can't blame OU for it. They did not create the icredibly stupid rule that put them there. As for closing out, well, your right about that, we should have closed it out. However, I have a hard time blaming that on this Horns team either. I don't know if any team could have played OU, Mizzo, OkSt. and Tech and come out unbeaten. People also forget that prior to those 4 games, Texas also had to travel to play Colorado in Boulder before the OU game. Not trying to make excuses but that's just a hard stretch for anybody. We've had a tough time with our two Freshman Safeties all year long. Yeah, they should have made the plays on the INT or on Crabtree on the sideline but, that's why you call them Freshman. Don't get me wrong, it really pisses me off when I hear OU fans saying they deserve to be there more then we do or that it was some kind of fluke lose to an inferrior team. I also hate it when you hear people crying about Mac Brown saying he shouldn't be trying to convince people that Texas is the Best Team in the country. What else is he supposed to do? You see the same thing from Stoops and all the rest all the time. To me, it's rediculous but at the end of the day, it is what it is. Sucks for Texas fans but nothing to do about it now. I'm a Big 12 fan so I hope they do well.

I don't blame OU and I think they are deserving my only point is there are others including Texas that are deserving as well.

For saying what we believe? Texas is as deserving as OU. Your team got the nod so be it, my reaction is to this ideal that OU somehow deserves it while other teams don't.

I'll try to be on occasionally as I don't want to be typing and miss plays. But I will be here to take a written beating for shamelessly not representing right IF that's what happens.: But that beating hopefully will go the other way. :D

At work, some of us had our Sooner colors on today and a couple of Hogs fans did the Gator chomp so I'm ready to get this game on. And we are in Sooner country!
