That would be a stroke of luck. Plenty of great backs in round 3 or 4.
You have to stop with the whole great backs in later rounds narrative. The best backs are highly drafted.
And you can get your offensive lineman in the 2nd round. There really isn't that much of a talent drop off.

Not true in this draft. Great backs all the way though the 4th round. Avila wont last to the end of the 2nd. I would be happy with him. I would happily take other positions in the first. Just never a RB. Especially not in THIS draft.

Did Zeke teach you nothing?

Zeke should be halfway done with a Hall of fame career. His lack of conditioning was his fault.

Only player they wanted is to retain and they lost was Gregory who decided at the last minute to change his mind over a clause. If they want to keep both players, they will resign them
I think I’m being punked. Do you realize how absolute your statements are? I don’t understand how someone on an open forum can know so much about internal matters. And it‘s just silly to suggest they haven’t lost players they would have liked to keep. This is a salary cap league you know? They are constantly having to make personnel decisions.

You claim our OL is set for the future and we only need to add a backup. Then you keep saying IF they want to keep Steele & Biadasz, they will (I assume the players have a say in the matter as well???). Here is where I am confused:
  • Are Biadasz & Steele part of this set future hypothetical of yours?
  • Are you suggesting we will retain them no matter what?
  • If yes, would you mind sharing your source? (If it’s a deep throat kind of thing, please don’t blow your cover)
  • Do the Cowboys share your view that these are foundational players? They likely will get vet starter $.
  • Is this OL future of yours still set if they aren’t retained?
They may very well resign them…I have no idea what their plans are. I do know that we have some decisions to make, some long in the tooth and injury riddled players, and not a lot of these developmental types you talk about who have shown they are ready to take the reins. But that’s just me.

What we know is, if the Cowboys want to keep a player, they always do.
This is true.......a huge prerequisite for a 2nd contract with Stephen is the Pro Bowl. Check out most, if not all originally drafted Cowboy players he's given 2nd contracts and you will see a pattern of at least one Pro Bowl.

Things to learn from Zeke:

-Most great backs fade after 4 years
-Great backs need a great line like most backs. When the line faded, so did Zeke
-Rarely, if ever pay a RB a 2nd big contract

And here we are with an average at best Oline and you want to draft a back in the first round. Not to mention we have Pollard already. Have you done your homework on the backs in this draft? Seems not.

Now maybe Bijon if no one else is there because he is a complete back. But Gibbs? Makes little sense.

They always have prioritized their OL, they are going to keep both players unless they greatly price themselves out. Not one team signed Steele as a restricted fa, probably cause they knew the Cowboys would match. Biaz was a pro bowl alternate, he fills that critera you are suggesting.

I have no inside knowledge at all, just basing my opinions on the history with this team under the Jones Family. I know any player they wanted to keep, they were able to extend them, outside of Gregory, I cannot name another one. What they usually do, is release a aging player when their contract becomes to high and doesn't match their production, we just saw that with Zeke, Jaylon, Amari, Collins, etc.

Why are you so worried at the 2024 season, we still have another full season before they have to resign these players?

Diggs they have to resign at the end of THIS season. He was a 2nd rounder. This is his 4th season.

Different Connor McGoverns

Former Cowboys Connor McGovern signed a 3 year, $22,350,000 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including a $8,000,000 signing bonus, $11,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $7,450,000.

The other Connor McGovern signed with the Jets today. Maybe I’m an idiot and reading it wrong and you are implying literally this lol
I appreciate the correction. I actually had it more jacked up than that. I was actually referring to the Jets Connor who I believe was 3/27M on his last contract but when I looked up the salary rankings for centers, I looked at Connor Williams who was 9th at a little over $7 and I managed to jumble numbers from both players. For clarity, my numbers are actually for Connor Williams McGovern who plays for the NY Dolphins.

Yes, they have several fa's after this season that are up for contracts. However, they can still create a lot more space and kick the can down the road, so to speak. Diggs is probably going to be the hardest to resign, where the tag may come into play. He probably wants to set the market and the Cowboys wouldn't want to do that. With Gilmore here, they will get to see if Diggs is worth that top contract or not. Either or, I expect Diggs to remain a Cowboy.

AT some point, Jerry needs to trade some of these guy that want to reset the market and get picks for them. Cant always just sign them. I applaud what KC did getting a windfall of picks for Hill and not paying him 30 million per year.

The drafting of Porter Jr. may change the leverage of a Diggs deal.

I outlined my reasons on the previous posts.

Are you of the opinion that 2023 decisions should be just about 2023?
Using your words “we have another full season before they have to resign these players”, are you suggesting the time to worry is next year? We have a Tyron issue as well right?

We have 6 legitimate starters and there could be questions with 3 next year. We have a 4th who will likely ride off into the sunset in a few years. I see a potential problem in the not too distant future and don’t know why we wouldn’t start trying to get out ahead of it now.

I respect your opinion and wish I shared your optimism.

You have to sign the right ones, they let Bryon Jones walk, just saw that they let Shultz go. They have made many mistakes too like Jaylon, Crawford

Why let them go when you can trade them? Never understood that. Diggs, Hill, Adams, all traded. Why cant Jerry trade them instead of letting them walk?

Bellichek is the king of that, but he is the only one who does effectively. Cowboys are built around stars, with little depth, hard for them to create such a hole
