Petrino said Monday he wants the Falcons to run a 4-3 defense. "One of my critical hires will be my defensive coordinator," Petrino said Monday. "It's certainly going to be very important to me. I want to be able to play the game very aggressive and be able to come after the quarterback. Obviously, you have to stop the run first."

Something tells me Petrino is in for a surprise.

I dunno. These things can always backfire. I used to bash Sean Payton's offense in both New York and Dallas.

Come to find out that his team has the #1 offense in the NFL this year. Granted they have plenty of talent on that offense, its still amazing what the guy can do when he can use all his "JAP" plays without BP looking over his shoulder.

Allow Zimmer to run his defense and don't force schemes down his throat he does not know and he can be a heck of a DC. This reminds me so much of Payton last year. This place practically had a party and ripped Saints fans when they hired him. All he needed was to get out from under the thumb of Parcells.

i'll have to agree. it's short sighted to say it's all on zimmer when his defense was a lot better BP (before parcells). i think he'll do well in atlanta and some people will just never admit he's a good coach.

You might want to check your facts before you post nonsense like that.

How many sacks did our D have in 2000, 2001, and 2002?

How many since BP got here (per season)?

Our overall rankings were much better when Zimmer was allowed to run the 4-3 before Parcells started tinkering.

I'm not a fan of Zimmer, but something tells me that he will emerge as a better cordinator than we give him credit for. I hope this doesnt come back to haunt us, like the next time we play the Falcons they sack Romo like 10 times or something.

what was our defense rated in those years?

what was it rated this year?

why wonly pick 1 stat when i'm looking at the whole d? in either defense, sacks were hard to come by.

looks like he found his 1 stat to hide behind but thank you - i was talking about overall defense and it's ranking.

next we'll hear smoke, mirrors and luck.

it's always something if you don't like someone.

I've seen that before. I still wake up in a cold sweat over that game against the Saints. The saving grace is that our offensive line will likely be different heading into next season, and Zimmer won't be able to tap into his knowledge of Rivera's tendencies, for example.

Ranking means nothing. Our D didn't come close to being dominant before BP. At least now it's a little closer. And even better now that that sorry POS is Zimmer is gone.

I picked 1 stat cuz it's been the biggest GLARING weakness on this team the last 7 years, but even MORE SO before BP got here.

By the way, our D finished #1 in the NFL in 2003, and I still wanted Zimmer gone that year.

You've got some serious lack of football knowledge if you're actually backing that piece of crap (Zimmer). Go ahead and go be a Falcons fan now if you like.

As much as I wanted him gone, I think Zimmer will do well in Atlanta. With Patrick Kerney, John Abraham, and Rod Coleman on the D-Line, they'll be able to create enough pressure for Zim's defense to do well.

The first year they'll probably do ok, but as is the case with almost every player that's ever been coached by Zimmer, they'll regress.

The longer he coaches them, the worse they'll get (individually).

Zimmer's sorry scheme got ran over his first year as DCoord (giving up 200 yards to a RB THREE different times that season) so he switched it up that offseason.

And Campo didn't run a "Bend but don't break" defense. Don't know where you people come up with this stuff.
