Petrino Resigns from Falcons - Going to Arkansas

wow, he didnt even finish a full year... that's pretty weak. He knew what kind of team he was getting into.

I don't think Petrino was aware of Vick's involvement in dog fighting when he accepted the job.

Well, its not like Vick was much of a QB in the first place, nor was he going to not get hurt for a full year again. Besides, that team has some pretty good holes in it.

My point was that he bailed out and I think thats weak.

Mike Singletary interviewed for the Falcons job last year.

He's a high-integrity, enthusiastic player's coach who turned down the opportunity to coach in college a couple of weeks ago.

I can see Blank going back to him to start fresh with a young guy.

If I am Arthur Blank I get the jump on all the other teams and go after Cowher right now.

I agree that it is weak.

Normally I would agree... but for the following reasons I wont:

  1. Blank lost his team...so...
  2. Petrino never had the team
  3. Petrino was confident he could build a team around Vick - that would have bought him some time - Vick gone = Petrino gone(I dont think Vick succeeds as QB anyways)
  4. DeAngelo Hall is a POS
  5. Other players werent on the same page

I think they go for an offensive minded coach.

Sign Marty Schottenheimer. The guy has proven over and over again he can get the rebuilding process started. Just be ready to fire him as soon as you make the playoffs.

I thought of him too, but Cowher is more splash and Blank likes to make a splash.

I can't remember where I read or heard it, but somewhere it was mentioned that Petrino was not very likable. Also, that Brian Brohm hoped that when he went pro that he did not want to play for Petrino. I thought it was on this board very early in the season, but it may have been on the radio.

Cowher is waiting for that Carolina job and he just may get that opportunity.

Joe Gibbs?

Andy Reid once he is excused from the Eagles.

Geez, I just thought about it and it is possible(even remotely) that 3 teams in the NFC East are looking for coaches next season.
