Petrino Resigns from Falcons - Going to Arkansas

They'll have trouble filling this job. Blank's run two coaches in two years by siding with the thugs on his team over his coach. Blank played Vick big money despite being a slime and forced Mora Jr. to play him and would have private meetings with Vick more often than he did with Mora.

Petrino's big problem was with Deangelo Hall and again Blank sided with the player over the coach.

I always thought Mike Zimmer would make an excellent head coach. He's a great 4-3 guy and all his players seem to like him.

He was just out of his element with the 3-4 and in addition to that his hands were tied by Parcells. Why do you think he bolted immediately after the season was over? Even before Parcells resigned?

I hope he gets the job. He deserves it.

Maybe they'll bring back Jerry Glanville.

It's not as if the northeast is full of healthy foods. Reid may get more outdoor exercise in the warmer Atlanta climate.

Yeah, I bet Andy is fond of that Pennsylvania Dutch food and you know he's hanging out in South Philly getting that Italian food and cheesesteaks. I'm sure he could find something to fill his maw anywhere he goes.

I used to like the idea of hiring a successful college head coach, mainly because of Jimmy's success in Dallas.

Jimmy looked awful his first year. When you hire a college coach, even if he will be successful, that first year usually is rough.

Bill Walsh. Successful college coach, had never coached as a pro head coach. What was his first year in SF like?

They need that year or two to get rid of has beens and wanna bes and figure out which end is up.

Just my two cents, but some of these college guys just bail too early. No stomach for it.

I like the idea of Mike Singletary, btw, but Marty can win with a wooden doll at QB. And there is no guarantee that Atlanta will have even a mediocre QB next year. I've seen enough of Harrington to believe he has Drew Henson's disease.

PETRINO DIDN'T ADDRESS THE TEAM

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that former Falcons coach Bobby Petrino resigned without addressing the team.

Glazer also reports that Petrino held a brief (as in 10 seconds) meeting with his assistants.

"He just said to us, 'Guys I've resigned, I'm going to Arkansas. I'm sorry. I'll be talking with you guys in the future.' And with that he turned and walked out the door. We haven't been told anything else," one assistant coach told Glazer.

Several players called Petrino's handling of the situation "classless."

If Blank seriously want to change the club around, he'd hire a hard-nosed coach like Cowher. I think that ball club needs some tough love to change the mentality of the players.

What an arsehat.

When the going gets tough ... Bobby hightails it to the Ozarks.

Wow. If I were a Falcons Fan, I would be on the hunt. Dude comes in, trades Schaub and lead the franchise on a downward toilet season before ditching with 3 weeks to go.

Pretty chicken$%#!

Yeah, I don't either but Blank should still go after Cowher.

I can see either Shottenhiemer or Parcells there. It's going to depend on how much money Blank wants to give up. And neither of those guys will want total control. Neither of these guys had total control at their previous HC jobs, they had a huge say in personel decisions and scouting, but not total control.

Blank needs a proven HC who knows how to rebuild a team and can fill the stands. After watching all of the empty seats during the Monday Night Football game, Blank can not afford to screw up this HC hire.

What a D-Bag.

Blank has burned through 3 coaches in less than 6 years. This is a dysfunctional organization that Blank will have a darn hard time convincing a Vet like Cowher or Parcells to take over.
