I think it was more that we didn't have any other legitimate options at RT, esp. since Flo's injury.

This was a hole on the roster coming into this season, and it remains so.
Petitti? A legitimate option in the first place? Columbo didn't have BP's "trust" yet Petitti does? Trust to do what?

Trust factor in the NFL isn't all it's cracked up to be. Give the guy a chance and see what happens.

In Pettiti's defense, he's a 6/7th round pick who Parcells decided he could turn into a decent starting RT. Pettiti's has played the best he could but simply too much was expected of him. I think he will be better next year after spending time in our weight conditioning program, but I am certainly not convinced that Pettiti is a starting RT in the NFL--at least not next year.

Cowboys need to seriously upgrade the OL in the offseason & I don't mean just sign 1 vet FA either. If I could make the call, I want us to sign a quality vet center & draft both an OT & OG (Allen/Riveria will be 35/34 in 06) but certainly hope our new scouting department which did so well in 05 season will do equally same in upgrading not only the OL but elsewhere on offense. Like it sure would be nice to have a FB who could help block.
......and SANTA CLAUS is real!!!!:

...may actually like the kid and wants to see what he has in adversity.

He gets another kick at the can IMO during training camp. Let's see what an offseason can do for him. If there's any chance that a dog can change it's spots it probably going to be a young dog.

Let's see how this plays for the team. They only have a sixth round pick invested.

these are desperate times when we lay the blame for our disappointments at the feet of a rookie 7th-rounder.

honestly, get a load of yourselves... like no rookie ever floundered before.

newsflash! most rookies require an investment of time, training, and patience. jacob rogers didn't do squat 'cept get himself injured his FIRST TWO SEASONS. and he still get's sympathy from some here. al johnson's rookie season - NADA. steven peterman - DITTO. yet most of these guys get a pass despite blocking nary a soul their rookie campaigns.

let's don't condemn petitti. let's get somebody tried-and-true in there while petitti hones his game. like most rookies need to do.

I see what you're saying, but I guess my point is if Petitti's "going to be" the goods, wouldn't it have been wiser to bring in some old vet to take the abuse so Petitti's confidence wouldn't be damaged.

I agree Petitti won the job coming out of TC, but BP should've pulled the plug at some point.

Adversity? At the expense of getting Drew Bledsoe killed? Please put down the pipe.

Petitti has had his time. He must go elsewhere, possibly to a high school program.

Just because he is a rookie doesn't mean he gets a pass for consistantly letting players get by him. It doesn't take a whole lot of experience to get the concept of blocking. I know Johnson or Peterman wouldn't have been this bad.

I think the thing that really gets under my skin is watching him get abused, beaten and embarrassed EVERY FING GAME since the bye week. You would think he would start to take the third step upfield instead of always stopping and putting his arms out.

This is a "produce now" and "win now" league. It isn't 1992 anymore, and rookies don't have time to learn from veterans.

This is just the reality of today's NFL, and Petitti isn't producing right now.

Like I said before, the way he was abused, it doesn matter if you were UNDRAFTED. There was no excuse for it and any excuses for it a ridiculous.

As far as getting someone in there while he hones his skills, that is where I say BP failed. He had AMPLE time to do it. Reference my previous post in this thread.

Or at least take better angles to avoid getting beaten by the Leonard Littles of the world.

Now that's just downright silly. He's the WORST STARTER IN THE NFL AT ANY POSITION?

Come on, man. I'm hacked we lost also but keep some sense of reality.

Who is worse? Who cost their team more?

How many DE's had their best game of the year against this guy?

I may be wrong, but I would like to see the stats. The sacks and pressures that he gave up were huge. Not to mention, his poor play took Witten out of he passing game for about 1/3 of the season (so Jason could help block).

I doubt any other OL player gave up so much pressure with so much help.

Our offense has been bad since the mid-90's. If it's not one thing it's another.

BP screwed up the CB position last year and he smartly went out and fixed it last offseason. Heck, Lance Frazier actually started a bunch of games at RCB last year and I don't believe he's even in the NFL anymore. This year, they obviously screwed up by being forced to start Pettiti at RT. Now, they need to go out and get a real RT. Let Pettiti come back and compete for a back-up OT spot. He was obviously way overmatched to be a starter and now let's see if he can beat out the competition for a back-up spot. Pettiti may get better or he may just not be good enough to play in the NFL. Most 6th rounders don't last long in the NFL because they just aren't that talented.

The funny thing is that poor, undrafted Torrin Tucker didn't even get this much rope when he was playing RT.

I like Pettiti. I think that he's a very tough young player. At this point, he's not a starter though. Maybe an offseason will change it, but the Cowboys must have improvement at that position.

It is safe to say that Dallas has the worst O-Line in the league and Petitti is the worst starter on the O-Line. I hope the kid gets better and really turns it around, but it is depressing watching him get abused like that when this could have been the year that Dallas finally emerged as a SB contender. But because of missed blocks, sacks allowed, penalties in crucial situations, and zero running lanes, a potential 12-4 team became a 9-7 disaster and all fingers should point at the O-line.

At least you arent making up excuses for someone who wouldnt start for the Texans or any other team in the NFL. We all know that 6th round picks usually wash out of the league. The draft in the last two rounds is a crapshoot.

Dave,

Does your last name start with a P and ends in an I with couple of Ts in between?

Just wondering.
