Peyton takes 4 million pay cut. Romo should do same.

No, a restructure would not kill this team. Teams don't go, hey, let's build a restructure into this contract that will kill us. Instead, they set up the contracts of those players most likely to play for years to come to be restructured so money can constantly be folded back into the cap when necessary.

The only way a restructure hurts the team is if a player's career is cut shorter than expected, which is why I would rather Smith's contract be restructured before Romo's.

It really all washes out in the end. If they restructure Romo and save 13m against the cap this year, he would add that 13m to the dead money left on his deal. If doesn't add any new money, it just changes when they pay for it.

Why is it smarter to take a 27m hit this year when we need to sign a lot of players and the cap will be 5-10m lower? That is just as bad as taking the hit next year if he retires early. Even if they don't use the whole 13m this year it can be rolled over and then they can even split it over 2 years with the June 1st designation.

Funny. He played with multiple injuries last year. When he was healthy during the first half of the season he was tearing it up. He's a long way from being done.

As long as he doesn't have to pass further then 30 yards;) Brady and Manning (Romo implemented it last year) are getting great numbers not taking shots. They still want them TDs but aren't risking that mojo anymore. The ugly truth to the new vet QBs = look at that 69% rating!

Peyton earns 2m back if they make it to the SB and another 2m if they win the SB. Seems like a fair compromise for Manning considering Elway wanted a lot more money back. Peyton should have held firm because there was no way Elway was cutting him.

Mindboggling. So what would you have done? Let him sign elsewhere? Who would you have signed or drafted?

agree.

anyway, in hindsight, his contract was not bad at all.
I think he's 8th and soon to be 9th on the list of top paid QBs right now. Hey, it's bargain!:D

I think Peyton is throwing the ball better now than the recent past. If Romo wants to take a pay cut then great. If not then maybe he'll give me a loan.

watching those last 5-6 games was painful. He could not get the ball more than 30 yards and it wobbled like the proverbial drunken sailor.
Word is that he had a bad thigh and could not get anything from his legs; his arm has never been all that strong and is clearly weaker since the neck surgeries.

With healthy legs he can do better but how much? the defenses were playing the receivers real tight because they knew there was no possibility of a deep pass.

I guess we'll see.

Peyton is taking a 4 million pay cut to help the Broncos free up cap space. Time for Romo to do the same. Romo salary will be 17 million this year. If Peyton can take a 4 million pay cut from his salary Romo can do the same. No its not a restructure that pushes money down the road, it's a straight pay cut. Come on Romo free up some cap space to help resign Dez, Murray and others.

Peyton sucked...romo was the #1 QB in the league.

Last I checked, #1's dont take pay cuts.

This was all discussed at the time. Fact is, he was signed and now we owe him the money we signed him for. All the rest is pretty much rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship.

So you essentially have a problem with one of the top QBs in the league getting paid the going rate and being part of this team who has since performed at an MVP level? Truly fascinating. Please, tell me more.

Don't ask him to clarify; it's like picking at a scab.

To his credit he has been consistent on this issue and I think the original premise was more about Romo's injuries and age--though I do recall ABQ being a bit of critique of his play too.

He's entitled to an honest opinion. I disagreed then and disagree far more so now, but it's just an honest disagreement.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I only ask as it is a truly bizarre take that almost nobody would have at this point. And if you're going to come out and post said point in this thread, I don't think it's out of line for people to ask you elaborate.

Well, the truth is that I was asked and I answer a question. I don't believe that almost nobody would share my opinion. I think there are probably lots of people who may agree with it and as time goes on, there will be plenty more IMO. Now it's all well and good and if we win a championship, then I can see how it can all be worth it. However, the possibility still remains that Tony will get hurt and that the team will suffer with their cap situation because of this.

You don't have concerns about that, that's fine. You are correct in that everybody is entitled to their own opinions. The difference is that I don't feel as if you OWE me an explination on an opinion. If you want to give it, thats cool. This is a subject that has been beaten to death for well over long enough. It's done, the contract is there. You want to continue to beat that dead horse, that's your business but don't think you are owed anything because somebody else is done with it. That's just not reasonable.
