Average: David Irving (48 snaps)
Below Average: Terrell McClain (76 snaps)
Poor: (in order, least poor to worst)
Cedric Thornton (46 snaps)
Benson Mayowa (79 snaps)
Jack Crawford (84 snaps)
Maliek Collins (54 snaps)
Tyrone Crawford (84 snaps)
PFF is meaning less. They have rated Free over Tyron at times in the past.

Three ways to describe PPF rankings.

1) I love them when they confirm my biases.
2) I hate them when they go against my biases.
3) The stats they accumulate themselves are interesting. Their analysis of said stats are meaningless.

I'm a 3.

Doesn't take PFF stats to show that the DL is underperforming.

It's stunning to me that people actually thought the DL would be an improved group from last year.

Jack Crawford 84 snaps 1 million a year 1 sack
Tyrone Crawford 84 snaps 10 million a year 1 sack

An absolutely putrid job by the front office this offseason on the defense.

If the Giants had done this to address their D problems - signed a Raiders cast off, moved a Chiefs cast off to DE, and used a 4th round pick on a DE - the same people preaching patience and hope for this DL would have been killing the Giants for their moves.

I wish the media would turn up the heat on Jones and demand their logic behind such a bizarre offseason.

OK.

Then go with your eyes. The DL has been average to below average for two games.
Not disputing that, but PFF is still meaningless. PFF does not even watch all of the snaps.

First, my post wasn't about needing PFF to show our DL is underperforming.

Second, I don't think there was a lot of optimism around our line coming into this year. Maybe you're new to the Zone?

Anyone who thought our Dline would be improved this year has deluding themselves. Hardy is gone. Randy Gregory won't see the field this year. Demarcus Lawrence suspended 4 games. Ro. Mac not on the line, but that's another significant piece that's missing.

I'm sorry, but they need to bring Hardy back. We simply don't have the talent to forego having another talented guy out there. They simply need to deal with him coming late to practice and knocking a few clipboards around. Aside from Claiborne and Jones taken in the 1st round and Sean Lee taken in the second round, the defense is filled with late round picks. Marinelli really has these guys playing above their level and I'd love to see what defense he could field if we actually injected some talent into it.

Smart people make judgements based on small samples.

Oh wait. I might have that backwards

In all honesty nobody on the defense should have a for sure job in Dallas next year.
That's a little hyperbolic, though sadly not too far from the truth. Lee is still a very good LB, playing behind a crap DL. Some of our DL are ok depth guys, the problem is that we have to us them as starters. Jones has looked pretty good so far this year. Other than that 1 catch by Reed, you don't hear his name much which is usually good for a DB.

Pfft I wish they were average. They've been awful so far. Is there a team in the league with a worse D line? Cleveland maybe?

Lee, Jones, Scandrick, Lawrence, Gregory (if he's cleaned up), Crawford I guess, Irving, Collins, Claiborne (he's looked ok this season I guess) . I mean, other than that our defense is just a bunch of jags. That's 9, but it's a sad state of affairs when pretty much the whole defense other than 9 guys can be turned over without much of a second thought. Oh, and Jaylon Smith, assuming he can get healthy

I don't know. Seems like there were quite a few people thinking this DL could be decent.

Smart people also put down the blue and silver glasses occasionally and take a look around at what this team really has.

And what they have is a very suspect DL, even with Lawrence coming back.

Problem isn't that draft picks aren't being used...it's that they don't know how to use them.

1st rounders: Claiborne, Jones
2nd rounders: Lee, Bruce Carter, DLaw, Gregory, Smith
3rd rounders: Crawford, Collins, Wilcox

that's 10 picks in the first 3 rounds which around draft time, everyone says the 1st three rounds is where you get starters. We've used enough picks to have a solid defense....if only we knew how to pick.
