So because we have drafted better for a couple of years that excuses 20 years of bad drafting by our lunatic owner/pretend GM with you defending him ?

Yeah, good times
They're a top 5 team as far as drafting this decade. And Risen pukes favorite coach also did a good job of drafting during his time here(not as great as puke thinks but real good job). How else do you think the Cowboys would have the 6th best record in the league since 2007? Luck?

They've drafted good players. Great players

92-68 since 2007 .

And don't say it's all because of the guy that nobody wanted this off season

I agree. But people keep only talking about the defense. The offense will have to get better also. The schedule is stacked with good defenses this year.

Yeah -- I think the offense will continue to improve with Dak and Zeke a year more experienced and better acclimated to the pro game. Having La'el at RT should hopefully improve things at that spot over last year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Green will master the LG spot and find his niche there. Of course, staying healthy will be key for him, also. Switzer might add some punch to the offense as well as punt returns.

In 1981 the Dallas Cowboys ran the ball a franchise record 630 times and was the #1 rushing team in the league. Tony Dorsett made 1st team All Pro with 1646 yards rushing. His FB, Ron Springs, ran for 625 yards. They absolutely hogged the time of possession and this placed an incredible burden on opponent offenses. Ironically, most analysts did not think the Cowboy could succeed that season because their secondary had been completely depleted due to retirement.

The secondary in 1981 consisted of a 33 year old Charlie Waters, former 11th round pick Dennis Thurman and two undrafted free agent rookies Everson Walls and Michael Downs. All they did was set a then NFL record in interceptions. the two CB's, Thurman and Walls, combined for 20 INTs. The safeties, Downs and Waters chipped in an additional 10.

That team seemed destined to go all the way but in the NFC championship game, Joe Montana threw this pass, there was a "catch" and the rest is history.

The point is, the strong running game created a domino effect that resulted in an historic season for a very young, inexperienced secondary.

This is why I predict that the Cowboy secondary will not be a detriment towards getting to the Super Bowl this season. In fact, their potential is extremely exciting.

Thank you for taking me back down memory lane.

The big difference is that team in 1981 had 3 former 1st rounders on the defensive line in Ed Jones, John Dutton and Randy White and a not so shabby sack artist at RDE in Harvey Martin (who holds the unofficial sack record for a season with 23 in 1977). Those 4 guys, and Landry being a masterful defensive coordinator were the reason for our defensive success then. The 2017 Cowboys have a bunch of no-names on our d-line rotation and it remains to be seen if they can pressure the passer. We do have Marinelli, who if anything has proven to be able to make chicken soup with chicken spare parts (I wouldn't call them crap).

No Super Bowl this year....hopefully next year.

Man it would be awesome if the cowboys made it to the Super Bowl this year, I just believe our Defense needs a little more work.

True. Might as well not even watch this season.

Seeing what our team did to "good defenses" last year I really am not that worried.
